Hal (at the savoy) and K.T. Tunstall (opera house) are the headliners this year it seems.

I don't think Hal have a strong enough support base yet to pull off a Savoy gig. They struggled to fill the Cruiscin in April, although maybe the album is starting to kick in now. On the otherhand K. T. Tunstall rightly or wrongly has massive support here at the moment and should have no problems in the Opera House.

Yeah there was a huge stampeed of females towards the Green Room at Oxegen for her. Hal will be deadly. Really enjoyed them last weekend.

i must confess i'm totally unfamiliar with k.t. tunstall, what style of music does he/she perform?

she started getting really famous after a performance on Later with Jools Holland a few months ago. there's probably a video of it available online somewhere. it was just her and a guitar and a looping / distortion machine thingie, like damien rice (who i know you don't like) uses.

*

Since completing 'Eye To The Telescope', KT has toured with Joss Stone, and undertaken a solo tour of Europe.

*

Following her hugely successful recent Oxegen performance, which sparked her to comment “I absolutely love playing in Ireland, I had my best gig ever in Ireland recently and can’t wait to come back again and play Cork.* Irish audiences are the best!’* This will be her first Cork gig in 2005 and is sure to sell out fast.

Beamish Experience**presents

HAL

plus guests

Friday 23rd September 2005,*

The Savoy Theatre, Cork

*

‘a string of pop pearls that lightens one’s load and lifts one’s spirit’

*– The Independent (UK)

Beamish Experience proudly presents HAL as part of the The Beamish Experience 2005 festival weekend in Cork.* HAL are an Irish quartet comprised of brothers Dave and Paul Allen (vocals/guitar and vocals/bass respectively), Stephen O'Brien (keyboards) and Steve Hogan (drums).

HAL released their eponymous debut album in April 2005 which went straight into the Irish charts at Number 6 in the first week of release.* *Their first single, ‘Worry About The Wind' boasted the kind of harmonies that never go out of fashion and their album is reminiscent of the carefree sound of the Beach Boys, both populist and arcane, modern yet infused with an old school quality.

Lead singer Dave Allen is endowed with breathtaking vocals whose falsetto-voiced delivery adds Hal's songs a saintly lustre and evokes the days when rock was blessed with a sun-kissed innocence.

The Beamish Experience date is part of HAL’s first Irish tour and tickets for this gig will be in great demand.

Ticketing Information

Tickets* €19.50 including booking fee

*Available from Plug'd Records, Washington Street and The Bodega, Coal Quay from Feb 7th (€1 booking fee). And from Ticketmaster outlets nationwide (€2.50 booking fee) and www.ticketmaster.ie

MONO BAND
You will hear something familiar about Noel Hogan's Mono Band: the trademark ringing guitars and fluid melodies bear the unmistakable imprint of his years with one of the world's most successful bands, The Cranberries. While The Cranberries have been taking a break after relentless touring and over 38 million in album sales; Noel who wrote such instantly recognizable hits such as “Dreams” and “Linger” for the group had songs that simply couldn’t wait around……and so Mono Band was formed. The Mono Band's debut album was released in May 2005, to rave reviews. It is certain both to delight long-standing Cranberries fans and to bring a new audience on board.

CARA DILLON - free gig
Special Guest: CLIVE BARNES
Doors: 8pm Tickets: FREE
Cara Dillon seems to have seduced the entire nation in just a couple of short, breathtaking, eventful years. Make that several nations, for among the rare ingredients of her irresistibly natural personality and mesmerizing ability to relate a great story in song, is an all-embracing quality that defies borders, cultures and even languages. She has worked with several musicians ranging from Phil Coulter (http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=1:PHIL|COULTER) to Mike Oldfield (http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=1:MIKE|OLDFIELD) . She has also received critical acclaim in British music magazines and in 2001 received two BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, one for Best Newcomer and the other for Best Traditional Track. Her eagerly awaited follow-up album is due for release on Rough Trade Records in March 2006, so in this exclusive and only Irish performance you can hear Cara and band debut new material from the forthcoming album along with familiar favourites.

Doors: 8pm Tickets: €10
Acoustic guitars? No samples or loops? Sounds a bit like an anachronism for the year 2000, doesn't it? But what is provided by Ezio Lunedei (singer/guitarist) and Mark "Booga" Fowell (guitarist), is nothing less than an anachronism, but one of the most innovative and freshest phenomenons of the music market. Far from this being a dreamy introverted songwriter show, you need to imagine two mad men playing Rock 'n Roll on acoustic guitars!! This powerful and exciting show is tempered with beautiful ballads, tales of longing, aching love, which have the disconcerting habit of catching you unaware with a line you could have written yourself, had you been able to put these deeply buried feelings into words.
Ezio whose musical roots are somewhere between Van Morrison and Jeff Buckley, looks for the ideal partner. When he met Kenyan born Booga, next to 2 Metres high and nearly that wide, it was only a matter of time before a musical union of unprecedented quality was formed.

Yeah spotted that alright, mustn't have been selling very well, thought that would happen, they're a good band but the Savoy is a big jump, no doubt the addition of Fred to the line-up will help sales too. KT Tunstall has sold out the Opera House I see.
