The transfer thread is older. This 'official' lark only came about at the behest of Herr Naff Naff a few months ago.

Manchester United have responded to their Champions League failure by announcing their second new signing for next season.

The Old Trafford outfit have confirmed terms have been agreed with Chivas for promising young Mexico international Javier Hernandez.

Subject to a work permit, the deal will be completed on July 1.

'Chicharito' joins Fulham defender Chris Smalling as a new United recruit, and will become the first Mexican player to sign for the Old Trafford outfit.

As part of the deal, United will play a match to open the new 45,000 capacity Chivas Stadium in Guadalajara as part of its 2010/11 season preparations.

Manager, Alex Ferguson said: “I am delighted to reach agreement with Chivas to bring such an exciting young striker, who has been in such prolific form for both his club and his country.

“He will be a great addition to our squad and we look forward to welcoming our first Mexican player in the summer.

“We are equally excited to play our first game in Mexico, opening the magnificent new Chivas Stadium in July.”

Chicharito passed a medical in Manchester this week and has an impressive strike-rate at club level, scoring almost once every two games.

However, he has done even better for his country, registering four goals in four appearances.

If he makes his country’s World Cup squad it could provide an early glimpse of his talent in England given Mexico are due to visit Wembley for a friendly on May 24.
