greatest of all time?? Tyson? are you taking the piss?

Only 2 heavy weights from the last 10 years or so could match the boys of the good old days, Lewis and Hollyfield no others. Boxing is a dying sport its full of bums now. Compare it to the good old days Ali, Frazier, Foreman, Liston, Louis the list is endless.

Common lads, next thing youll be saying naz could have been the greatest of all time.

Tyson at 21/22 had the potential to be a true legend, thats the thing. He never realised it.

but he was fighting a bunch of nobodys, all he had was power, his technique was shocking. I know all foreman and liston had was power too but anyone who laster the first two rounds with tyson made him suffer.

His technique was top notch in his youth. Look at those tapes again.

I'm no boxing expert but like him or hate him most boxing observers in the know agree that Mike Tyson was potentially up there with the greats for his first few years as the World Champ. Like the Rolling Stones or someone in music the sight of him now may not help his legacy but look at the footage from the late 80's and tell me this guy wasn't unreal. I'll always remember that time he destroyed Sphinx in about a minute.

he was a fcuking machine when he was 21/22, to say he lacked technique is a load of bollocks, the way he could bob and weave and slip punches was a joy to behold

His power was a joy to behold. Ill give tyson one thing, his lunging rear hook was the best execution of that punch ever. But i would not rate that 21/22 year old up in the top 10 heavy weights of all time

No means yes eh?

when tyson lost the best years of his career to prison so we can only wonder what he would have become. I think he would have been far more successful than Lewis or Hollyfield but he would have had to kept his discipline and cool too which for him is difficult!

That wasn't the first time she accused somebody of rape and tyson turned down a reduced sentence too cos he wouldn't plead guilty to a crime he said he didn't commit...this is american justice and i do feel that he didn't rape her!

I disagree-i used be a big fan till this rape. I saw an interview with her and her family at the time and she was a girl who had an awful lot going for her. On the basis of that documentary i was convinced he did indeed rape her and his subsequent actions have caused me to lose even more respect for him. Once his mentor died he lost his way.

Holyfield was not a heavyweight. He was a cruiserweight for fawk sake. By far the best heavyweight or at least the one with the most potential over the last fifteen years was without a doubt Riddick Bowe. Seemingly for Riddick it was more important to go a bit crazy and 'kidnap' his wife and child and spend some years in the pen. Sadly he is back fighting again even though it is quite obvious with his speech that he suffered some damage in past bouts.
What's missing from most of these fighters is a manager, not for in the ring but outside of it.

Now getting back to the real issue. How about this fella Kevin McBride ??

holyfield fought heavyweight too

- another debate im not getting into is the ammount of fucking weight devisions now

but as for McBride, dont give him much hope, tyson needs a nobody to knockout again and id say this is what McBride is.

I remember McBride in the Barna Olympics and he was shocking. He got stopped.I've seen him a few times on TV and he is just a big lump and has been stopped by nobodies before. He has no chance. He is in the P. McNeeley mould. Its strange but cause he has been to the Olympics you'd think he could box a bit but back in those days Irish heavyweights were not up to much. They have come on a little now.

And I reckon Hatton could beat Tszyu but his price means he's not worth a punt.Maybe best bet is to pick a round.Tszyu has been battered before, can be hit and stopped. If Hatton wins though his stock won't rise, they'll just say Tsyzu was washed up.

On the Heavyweights, when did Holyfield or Lewis beat a good heavyweight who was in their prime? Holyfiled beat Bowe but Bowe was fat that night and still could have got the decision.Lewis might be a top ten all-timer but I don't know.Well in my opinion he's not and neither is Holyfield.

The Eternal Optimist

Naz was a decent fighter but he believed his own hype.I think he moved up the weights too fast. And he did beat more than Kelley.Medina and Johnston were decent fighters and he beat them.At least Hamed was willing to cross the water and fight big names.Thats more than a lot of Brits are willing to do these days.

All im saying is these two were the best of a bad lot of heavy weight, i dont think either would be in the top 10 of all time, but they are definitly the best of the last decade or so.

On another note - russians to dominate in the coming years
