he's the only dj on the station thats allowed to play the records/cd's that he buys/downloads the rest of the dj's are told what to play on the station.
so unless the politics change on kiss we will never know the rest of the djs on kiss are capable of.
no disrespect to slipmat i think he is a well above average dj,plays some excellent trance has it well before anyone in cork.

Dunno so...
I haven't been in town clubbing for months, (aside from the Mylo gig), I've a friend coming over from Wales this weekend & I haven't got a clue where to take her! I was thinking Havana's maybe, just to show her how truely horrendous it is. But that would be cruel, terribly terribly cruel. I couldn't do that, could I? She'd never come back!

Greg and Shane for me no doubt.
Loads and loads of other quality DJs in Cork though, most have been mentioned but i don't think anyone gave props to the Chapter 5 soul lads. Some quality hip-hop DJs, most of who have played at Elementary. I always liked DJing with Bellyman, Donkeyman, Gina, Fork and those back in the day too and honourable mentions must go to the extremely talented Alan O'Keefe but he's now a rock star not a DJ! Also, watch out for Susie K from the next generation.

Graham Payne and John Daly are without doubt one of the best pair of djs in the city.
There are many great djs about in their designated styles and that is a great thing.
But for me personally its about blending and fusing great music from different eras, and they do it quite well!
Its a real "My Mother is Better than Your Mother" issue but its worth the mention anyway!

Wiinding back the clock a little but would like to mention Mark Hurley at this point as well. Those Sunday afternoon sessions on the radio were fantastic. Loads of obscure deep house from little towns in Scandanavia. The stuff was so underground that when you'd call up the next week looking for something he played the week before he wouldn't know what you're on about!
I think some of those records used to vapourise after a few plays to make sure they didn't get too popular...probably wouldn't have discovered the Svek label without him.
Another soul that brightened up a mundane week was "the Rushman". Although I wasn't the biggest fan of this presentation skills when he arrived on radio first I have to say that towards the end of Radio Friendly I rarely missed Neil Rush's show. He played lot of Cork stuff as well which was a nice leg up for producers like us.
One of the best nights out I ever had was in the back bar of Zoes on a Friday night when Paul Murphy used to play there. The depth of his record box, knowledge of music and his programming were outstanding whether it was in a club or on the radio.

The Rushman is now madly in love and co-habiting with a lovely lady from Portugal called Joanna. I think we've seen the end of Neil's music days but he could prove me wrong yet...!!!

Like Cartoon, I used to listen in to Marc Hurleys radio show every Sunday afternoon - I'd have a notepad and biro out, scribbling down the names of tunes I'd hear him play. Its a shame he's finished playing.
Has Mark Hurley given up????
That's a shame. used to love his show on friendly as well, and I have 2 mix CDs of his that are outstanding.
Like Cartoon, I never would have heard of Svek without him. And I have him to thank for introducing me to Royal Family - The Pressure, one of my favourite ever house tracks.
As for best DJs in Cork, it's gotta be Greg and Shane, who are IMO the best djs in the country, and definitely my own personal favourite DJs.
Jamie Behan is an amazing techno DJ.
Ronan C was always excellent any time I saw him.

I THINK I'M THE BEST DJ IN CORK!!HAHAHA...ONLY MESSIN.... I reckon 1 v d best dj's in cork(well, county cork) is miss motif. She plays stuff slightly more techy than i'd b in2, completely different 2 her 'up&down' tune with scent, but her mixing is mint!!she has d harmonic mixing down2,pretty much every mix is smoother than carl cox's head, and her tune selection getz d crowd bouncin around!! Also big up 2 KC 4 his mixin..once again not reeely my style of ceol, but his mixin is well worth a mention!!!!!!

Have part of one of his mixes from maybe 98 - 99, some tunes on that, its only on cassette though, first & best deep house compilation ive ever heard.
One of the main reasons I got into deep house.
Had cascades of colour on it, think he used a line from that song as the title for the compilation, maybe "The Music is your Beacon"

1: MISS MOTIF As Dashka says, quality music, she's moving with the times, mixing is second to none, vocals are just spine tingling, great entertaining performances, and come like, who in the city has played to over a hundred thousand people in the last year!!! Album out soon... This girl rocks....
2: STEVIE G Basically, he started the Hip hop, R n B seen in Cork, Has gone from strength to strength, has his own radio slot... Doing his best for the music seen in Cork, Im not a big fan of his music, but he's definately one of the top dj's, because of he's dedication, hard work and he's love for music...
3: Greg & Shane Well, what can ya really say about them! Sheer quality..
Their still producing their own, still drawing the crowds... Think they have abit more in them though, time will tell!!!

ah i used to love ian richards on sunday mornings on friendly, years ago...
bellyman too, as far as i remember....
somebody had pics of him at 96fm, back in the pre-illegeality days, when it was southcoast, or something?
