Hey Willow,
Ya i did the course for the last two years. Its mainly aimed at singer/songwriters but instrumentalists are also encouraged. Its handy to have a bit of theory as well as they tend to rush through that. its a good course, a good way to spend the year. the main thing i got out of it tho was the contacts u make. u really get to know other musicians around the city.
You'll hav to wait until next year to apply tho, n get ur application in early,
gudluck!

I did the course about 3 years ago and thought it was brilliant. Its full time though and takes up a lot of hours... you are in college till 6pm every day and then you have projects and practice to be doing but its well worth it. you do a little bit of everything from live and studio recording, songwriting and music theory, and promoting and managing a band. its hard enough to get into the course because so many people apply so do your research as they ask lots of questions at the interview so only those who are really interested get in.

class!
Pulse Recording College in Dublin is a fantastic course, probobly the best in Ireland if recording is what your looking to learn.
Very, very extensive, top class studios (Pro-Tools, Analog tapes, Post -Production Studio - Flood used it a lot when I was there while New Order, JJ72 and Sam Mumba were all working on albums). Expensive though.

The Music Managment course in Ballyfermot College, Dublin is pretty good. Its 2 years I think with an optional 3rd year if my memory serves me. My friend is doing it at the moment and can't speak highly enough about it.
Send them an email and they'll send you a prospectus.
Have a look at this.. http://www.bcfe.ie/music/frames.html
Should give you what you're after.
I was going to do the course this year but things happen and paths get diverted I guess.

hey willow,
it's a great course, they teach you a lot about how to get things off the ground for a young band/ musicians. lotus lullaby's first ever appearance under that name was at a csn gig as a two piece with a backing track and guitar!
it is full time though and you need to be dedicated to get anything out of it and the competition is huge for it
I recommend playing a cover and an original song in the interview as well as showcasing every instrument you play.

you only get to play one song in the interview.
the aforementioned Donald S. Passman book is great and well worth the money.
There's a good chance the course has changed a bit now with more emphasis on the music side as they restructured the course so that those who finish second year will leave with a diploma. Therefore the standard expected of people going for the interview has gone up.As far as i know, you need a basic knowledge of music theory now to get in.
