Not DBexTD, but maybe, just maybe there are some signs of hope that the government might go soon...

Senator Deirdre de Burca resigns from Green Party
External

Senator Deirdre de Burca this morning announced she has resigned from the Green Parliamentary Party and Seanad with immediate effect.

In a statement this morning, Ms de Burca said she could not longer continue to support the Greens in Government.

“I have written to my party leader, John Gormley, explaining to him the reasons for my resignation” she said. “I believe that we have lost our way as a party and have gradually abandoned our values and our integrity since becoming part of this government,” she said.

“I do not take the decision to tender my resignation lightly but am very clear that I cannot continue to be a part of what the Green Party is supporting in Government.”

Hopefully a TD or two maight follow suit.

No, no.

Dan Boyle is the pretend-to-resign guy.

The spineless bastard.

The Green Party is finished.

They're dropping like flies lads. Thank God for Mattie McGrath.

Come on Dan, you know what to do. Its your only hope of ever winning a seat again.

They are the new PD's. Wipe out at the next election.

Expect FF to drop them like a hot potato when it become necessary.

I thought Deirdre De Burca's interview on the 1 O'Clock news on Sunday was pathetic.

You could pretty much sum it up like this.

She asked Gormley for the European Commissioner's job. He couldn't secure it but he said he could give her a position at the European Auditor's Court instead. She rejected it. She wanted a place in Maire Geoghan-Quinn's cabinet instead. MGQ did want her in it. Gormley reports back. She says "I want it". He says they don't want you. She quits in a pout.

It was cringing the way she went on about giving Gormley her CV. As if that somehow guaranteed her the job. Couldn't believe the interviewer (think it was Richard Crowley) didn't press her on being self-centred.

Politics is about compromises and principals. If she quit because Fianna Fáil made the Greens agree to a toxic dump on the burren then fair enough but quiting because of this is totally self-centred.
