Media treatment akin to 'being raped' - Cullen
Thursday, 21 January 2010 22:11
Martin Cullen has described his treatment by some sections of the media following false allegations that he had an affair with a married woman as akin to 'being raped'.

Mr Cullen, the Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism, addressed a seminar on defamation in Dublin this afternoon, and said he had been on the front pages of Sunday newspapers for 13 weeks in a row.

His children had to be moved from their school and had been subject to what he called 'horrendous bullying'. He said his sons had 'had the living daylights' beaten out of them trying to defend their father's honour.

Following the allegations that he had been having an affair with Waterford PR executive Monica Leech, he said some of his colleagues did not want to be associated with him, and he paid tribute to Mary Harney and Bertie Ahern, who, he said, 'had been fair' to him.

He said he had felt like running down Kildare Street shouting: 'I am innocent. I am innocent'. He described the experience as being like 'waking up every day and being raped'.

He described how one journalist had bullied his way into his family's home when his 11 year-old daughter was there on her own and had her 'phone his ex-wife on her mobile phone.'

'I am a public figure and I accept what goes with that but the real impact, the hard core destructive impact, is on the family, the immediate family and I saw that at first hand', he said.

He said he did not like the Defamation Bill because it gave more to the media than it did to the individual.

He added that he could not bring himself to view a Bebo site about him with graphic material on it that had attracted 'a million hits.'

Martin Cullen needs to learn some perspective.

No doubt it was an unplesant experience but to compare it to being raped is idiotic.

Bebo site? A million hits?

Ya right, I'll believe it when I see it.

Maybe Martin Cullen should realise that perhaps now would be a good time to fuck off?

Him and Noel Dempsey and Eamon O' Fucking Cuiv, Brian Cowen, and Mary Coughlan would be a good start.

Fuck off the lot of ye, ye out of touch mucksavage parasitical cunts.

I'm so looking forward to watching those spud gobbling cunts getting fucked out of power.

Only problem is that we will have Joan Burton, Eamon Gilmore, and Emmet Stagg in instead of them, propping up Enda Kenny.

Unless Fine Gael get an overall majority, which looking at today's poll results looks increasingly unlikely.

Exactly. He allows himself to get highly offended by the media attention and criticism but he does not consider that maybe he is in the wrong job for a number of reasons.

Does he not consider that the country feels a little violated by him and his cohorts spending vast sums of money traveling by private jet from Cannes to Cahirciveen for the opening of a sweetshop and then onto Cardiff for a match or on buying and storing an e-voting system to never be used among all others.
He is the one then who feels 'raped'... Lets give him an hour in Mountjoy with bubba and find out how raped he felt by the media then.

Isn't there laws about leaving an 11 year home alone ?

The other thing is did he report this to the Guards, surely charges of forced entry and threatening a minor are better than privacy laws but when have RTE news ever asked questions.

He said that his kids had to move schools, because of the "bullying" they were getting after this story broke.

I find that hard to believe.
