It's a disgrace what some of the salaries of them are on. It's always the frontline ones, like the guards and the nurses who are out on protest. But statistics show it's the other 73% including, ludicrously teachers who are invoved with union talks and the like, egging the others on. Politicians are reluctant to cut civil service wage because it would start a chain reaction and public opinion would result in a cut in politicians salaries.

I've no gripe against the underpaid guys, e.g. clerical staff on 25k
I've no gripe against the public service, we need them.

But the fat cat teachers, on 64K+!
And their slogan in favour of taxing the rest of us is: "Let those who can afford it, take the pain"
They're going to need a mirror if they're gonna start pointing fingers.

There is nothing wrong with paying a public servant €100,000, if hes worth it.

The whole system stinks, it is Fianna Fails fault, not the public sector employees.

The ESRI study of only a few weeks ago showed the biggest disparity between public and private sector is at the lower end of the pay spectrum and not the higher end, as one might expect.

Don't forget those fat cat union chiefs are the main instigators in this whole charade, from start to God only knows where it will end!

Nothing ever changes in this country. All anyone does is go moan on the joe duffy show and it all blows over in a few days.So much for the irish fighting spirit. The French are the ones who know how to protest.

What's with all this protest talk??? Oh I have a guaranteed job with a handy pension paid for by the tax payer and I am paid 26% above what my EU equivalent is paid, but, now cause we are borrowing €500 million a week my wages need to be minimally cut to save us from going bankrupt. Who's that calling, oh my fellow brainwasher Jack, ya I am not standing for this, I am going to hold the private sector and unemployed people ransom by illegally withdrawing services and walking around the streets like a geebag shouting and roaring! Gobshites!

Nice to see that the firemen are not joining the strike tomorrow (Tuesday).

I am sure that it has nothing to do with the vast amount of overtime that they are getting at the moment due to the flooding. We couldn't miss out on that, could we?

Just read in the reputable Daily Mail that the average take home pay for a senior garda has risen in 9 years from €832 to €1210 per week. I know someone with a PhD developing cancer fighting drugs, working about 60 hours a week not on that much money.

That's not the average for senior Gardai. It's the average for all Gardai, including the "lower paid" ones.

Thats pretty much a standard wage for a guard, doesn't take overtime into account.

Senior Gardai are on significantly more than that.
Some of the senior ranks are on 120k per year easily,
Which works out to 2.3K per week
