View Full Version : How will we do against Kerry?

Apparently we've been going very well in training but no Corkery, no Brendan Ger and Clifford is ruled out with injury (was going well this year by all accounts). I also hear that Anthony Lynch is a major doubt. If he doesn't make it, it's not looking good for us at all.
How do ye reckon we'll do against Kerry? Are we looking at maybe a good run in the qualifiers, possibly getting to a semi final, as being a decent season for us especially after the disaster that was last year, or can we have a decent crack at the All Ireland this year?

kerry are absolutely flying in training and after a bad performance against clare will surely be on song - im afraid i dont think weve a chance especially with the injuries we have but look at the players at their disposal pure class like - the gooch and mike frank are on fire for their clubs - the ginger haired fella is playing the football of his life i hear - we need anthony lynch at his best and even at that this boy has made a fool of him before - i just dont see it happening but red cards could tell a story!! they are able to pick off scores at ease with either foot

Lynch is definitely out I heard. Apparently Billy confirmed it. Huge blow for us. Can't see us beating them to be honest...

they aint that bad a bunch - we have some class acts in there but we lack scoring forwards and suffer coz kerry are so strong at present - coupled with the loss of brendan ger and corkery with potential injury losses of lynch and clifford these four players will make it an almost impossible task - but we always give kerry a good game down there and i dont expect this one to be different - they will beat us though in my reckoning
also - unfortunally is not a word

A good strong run in the qualifiers is whats required. The Cork football team needs to win a few big championship games this year. Consistent hard-working simple style football would be a great boost. They need to develop a style and stick to it throughout all games. To me, it's as if they panic when in possession of the ball and create no options for each other thus running every ball into the corners and as a last effort usually kick from crazy angles.
Probably sticking my head out here, but last year I felt for some reason that there was too much confidence in the team. That day in the Pairc they felt as if it was a case of just turning up to win against Limerick. I dunno where they got it from. I'd say Larry had them built up like superstars.

good news then and there is rumours in kerry that tom se is after suffering an ankle injury and is a doubt and he'll be a big loss to them as well

I think the teams major problem is nobody can point from 40 odd yards out they seem to have to walk the ball in. Also cork dont seem to score more than 11 scores in a game

with that starting 15 kerry would want to be fair bad to lose - most of them wouldnt lace the kerry boys boots - our 4 losses are massive and without lynch we dont have a hope unless canty has a blinder and rules the midfiled battle but i expect dara o se will have a say in that

Tis heard to see anything other than a Kerry win to be honest......the heart says Cork, the head says Kerry but you never know. These games are usually close so it's possible we could sneak a win. I think we'll come out the better in midfield to be honest but it's all dependent on how we use the ball from here. Lynch out is a massive blow altogether. I think any chance we had went with him. Also the other lads ruled out means that the best we're looking at is putting up a good show and running them close and then a good run in the qualifiers.

Also I'd just like to say that Wexford could be worth a bet to win Leinster in the football. Been tipping them as outsiders all year. Mate of mine backed them at 100-1 after they beat Galway in the league. Laois should still be the team to beat but you never know

Never mind the Munster SFC, Even if Cork do win on Sunday Kerry will wipe the field with them on the big day when it really matters. That Sunday afternoon in Croke Park should never be forgotten. Lowest point in Cork football for decades. Still I wouldnt be suprised to see Cork come out on top on Sunday, but the thing is, putting Kerry away the second day! Can this Cork team really answer the hard questions on the big day against serious opposition.....Apart from canty and Lynch there's not one typical leader to pull Cork through those kind of games and with that, they too have been known to go missing when it mattered.

fuck it boy you hit the nail on the head there - kerry are class and without four of our reknowned players to guide us i fear well suffer on sunday - but we always give them a good game and lets hope if we do go down we go down fighting! Canty will have to have a blinder for us to pull through - we could beat em once but never twice and we wouldnt beat them now in a serious championship game in croke park - they have so much class - sure quill is like number 28 for them and hed dance on our team

Have a little faith lads. We have 4 of our better players out injured or suspended but Billy won't send the lads out without a gameplan and with his record you can't rule us out. Even if we lose sunday we can go through the qualifiers improving steadily and catch the fuckers in the final. I'm expecting a good year this year, hurling and football.

i think well be without silverware in both codes again this year - waterford will beat us me thinks and kerry will beat us - then the qualifiers will be tough in bith codes there is a lot of good teams around and we could be caught on the hop

It's that time of year again when masses of Kerry and Cork folk begin the tedious journey in their John Deere and Masseys armed with flasks and sandwiches. But yet again, the feens will more than likely be foiled again. I expect (then again, it wouldn't be hard, really) that Cork will actually 'play' football this year. What in the name of Fr. Mathew happened to ye last year? Is it true that Larry thought he was Alex Ferguson for a spell?
Anyway, I haven't heard if A Lynch is in or out yet but one thing's for certain - ye are a better 'team' without that LANGER Corkery. His attempt in the States will probably culminate in doing a 'Snickers' ad at the sideline.
Ciarraí Abú but sure you have to love the rivalry!

To all of the Cork fans, commiserations. Not for the way in which ye went down (yet again) today but for the state of football in the county at the moment. Surely to God a county the size of Cork can field a better team than that? With Billy Morgan at the helm again, I can't but wonder if he's overplaying the 'Nemo' card?
I'm sure Spillane will have more on that later on. The best ye can do now is do a Páidí on it and draft in a Kerryman to show ye how peil should really be played.

Didn't see the game myself down here but I heard Cork were shocking. Didn't expect anything less with the players we had out though to be honest. You're looking at one from Kerry, Galway, Armagh and Tyrone for the All Ireland. Cork hopefully will get a good run in the qualifiers. On another note.......the All Ireland is there for the taking now in the hurling with Wexford beating the Cats....savage altogether. I'll post a separate post on the hurling..

they are both our national sports and we should be promoting both codes in every county - kerry are nothing short of disgraceful in their dealins with hurling and the county board there has a lot to own up for - theyd be more interest if they promoted it better- i have equal pride in both hurling and football in cork - but to be honest we were in a win win situation on sunday - if we lost we could blame the loss of 4 major players and if we won we would have beaten kerry without 4 stars! we arent that bad and hopefully well have a good lash at the qualifiers - hopefully kerry will come good in the hurling eventually although the way they play it down there is pathetic - its pure hatchet with little emphasis on skills!

Have you much inside information on the goings on with the Kerry hurlers kerrybabe? Is it likely their withdrawal from the qualifiers this year will lead to them not entering next years Munster/All Ireland championship? The Munster council and the Kerry county board should be looking to promote the game down there and not kill it. The Munster council's decision to renege on the promise to give Kerry home advantage in Munster was a disgrace in my opinion. The Kerry county board's decision is also as bad although I can see their frustration at the moment.

It's a terrible situation, really. I was chatting to someone from North Kerry today and they maintain that the players and mentors are purely frustrated with the lack of support down there. According to him, they've done this to take a stand on principals. Seán Kelly may be embarrassed but what's needed down there is an awful lot of promotion when it comes to hurling.

Hopefully the Munster council and GAA take note and try to come up with something that'll promote the game down in Kerry and all the other weaker counties. The more competitive the game gets in these counties the better for hurling in general. I'd love to see the day when a Cork/Kerry hurling match is more than just shooting practice for Cork.
