Climax: Calvin Harris & The Saw Doctors @ Curraheen Park - 19th November.

Whats the buzz with this??

First of all, ticketgroup.ie? Never heard of em.

Secondly, doors are open at 4pm on a Thursday?????

What's that all about?

For those who don't know. Here's the link.

I just got a really bad mental image when i glanced at this!

Far from me to be cynical about such an event but it is being organised by students themselves and i'd be interested to see security arrangements

Fair play though it is causing excitement on campus and will do well

It's a bit of a mix of genres to have under one roof but I'm sure the students'll love it.

great that students are running there own nights back in cork. i know there have been many nights such as freakscene and stuff but im involved in a night over here in bristol run and organised by young guys who cant find a venue for their stuff so make one. haircuts, clothes, skate accessories, live graffiti, live mc, free bqq......

Ya I'd go just to see Calvin Harris. The gig doesn't show up on the list of gigs on the Official Calvin Harris Website (http://www.calvinharris.co. uk/gigs.php) though?

Also why has there been no advertisments or anything about this? I just heard it off a buddy in college. Haven't heard any thing about it on the radio or seen any posters for it.

Also why r they having it out in the Greyhound stadium? Is there a big area there to use. When i was there before for a christmas party there was only a very small dance floor area at the top of the tiered restaurant.

I'm sure I saw a poster for this somewhere (I think?)

Odd one alright.

So it's a CIT organised thing out by City's old ground in Bishopstown? I've never been to the greyhound track.

Curraheen Dog Track said they will not allow this gig on their property.

Apparently the local Gardai were not happy as they were not told about the event. Also it looks like it was never meant to be on a Thursday as it clashes with the dog track but was promoted as such.

Alot of speculation there! There is no press statement from Curraheen Park that this is not going ahead, its all hearsay. If Ticketgroup guarantees a refund if the gig does not go ahead, whats the problem? Just sent Ticketgroup an email asking to confirm this..

Say nothing till ya hear more.. ;)

Doubt curraheen would do a press release as they only leased the overflow car park and had nothing else to do with the event.

I was talking to a senior manager in curraheen yesterday around lunch time and was told they will not allow the event on their grounds. (Im designing an advert for them at the moment and it came up in conversation. )

I'd guess the organisers are looking for another venue at the moment but there hasnt been any update here or on boards.ie from them. Hopefully they will be able to respond urgently to let people know what is happening.

Firstly I would like to welcome new user Philiporeilly to the Proc. It great to have a good and fair discussion and I for one do not find it anyway suspicious that your only reason for being on these forums is to talk down this event!!!! Seriously! ;-)

Very Good and I saw that one coming!! :-) Thanks for your welcome and im looking forward to being a PROC user in future!

Im using my real name and have identified myself as being a person who has had contact with a senior manager in Curraheen Park. I am an employee of CIT and became aware of this information which I consider important for students to know.

I've been a boards.ie member for years and was worried for students when I found out directly from curraheen park that they were not allowing this gig on their premises. A boards.ie user placed a link to this forum page and I thought it was necessary to leave an update here in case students could loose €30.

I am not "talking down" the event but just leaving a fact which may be important for some users here. I never criticised the event, just said it wont take place at Curraheen. It could be a great event if it goes ahead somewhere else! Hopefully we can get some urgent clarification from the organiser.

I hope other users here might appreciate this fact that I have left here. I know I would!

Someone needs to meatspin that place.

I think this is hilarious:
This gentleman, "rossodwyer", first posts as a happy-go-lucky punter who is delighted that he bought a ticket:
http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=62763 458&postcount=1

Then five days later he launches a fierce defence of the gig he claims to be organising:
http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=62837 789&postcount=33

Which is it Ross??

Mr O Dwyer fails at the first hurdle of on-line promoting. if yer gonna big up a gig as a "punter" use a different alias. PM Eire Eyes for tips.

And anyways, since when was 30e for a gig good value for students?

Totally Jim. His musical prowess is seen as unrivalled. Obviously.

Actually, I welcome anything that's an alternative to the MCD/Aiken/Pod relative monopoly on big gigs. If they manage to pull this off, I'll actually be pretty pleased. They obviously have a bit to learn on the PR side, and a bit to learn on the politics side, but fair balls to them for at least trying.

No response here or on boards.ie yet from organisers.

Only guessing that they must be trying to keep this quiet until they find a new venue. Fair play to them if they can manage it at this late stage.

As an outsider who has no involvement in this gig and has no real interest in when or where it's on, I'm curious as to what exactly is your problem with the organising of this event and why you're so against it?

I'm not against this event and as I said before fair play to them for looking to put on an event of this scale. They should be given credit for attempting to bring some new events to Cork.

I just want to leave the fact that Curraheen said no, which I think is important for students to know and I answered a post above from another user asking if there was an update.
