Far from there being too many civil servants, it appears there are too few !
A report in today's Cork Independent says that the Ballincollig Community Welfare office has been closed for several weeks because :
" a number of staff are on long term sick leave, short term sick leave. maternity leave and a number of staff are on annual leave.
The result is that the office has been closed for 3 weeks.
It didnt say if there were any staff on ' cumpulsory sick leave', the one category that appears to have been omitted !

Fire the lazy gits and replace them with any of the legions who are out of work.

You know damm well that it's nothing to do with the people working there and more to do with the bloated middle managment and Union arseholes refusing to come to a compromise. this with the recruitment "ban" has led to this situation. Is there anyone who you won't attack? Most members of the public and civil service do a fine job, the problems is with the middle managment that should have been thinned out years ago but it was easier for goverment to continue to pay them than face a backlash for letting people go. I await your accusation that I am a public sector worker.

See my HSE North Lee thread on the Langers Forum.

I even raised the matter of Ballincollig in that.

The problem has nothing to do with a lack of staff and everything to do with internal HSE politics. Basically, the Unions have instructed staff to take on no extra work. The result is that when someone is sick, on holidays, maternity etc that nobody is bothering to pick up their caseload.

I got fucked around for nearly three months- a round of emails to a couple of local TD's, councillors and the office of the minister for health and bang! I got sorted within 6 days.

What the HSE unions are up to at the moment is simply beyond the pale.

And by the way, you're confusing social welfare with the HSE... community welfare is paid for by social welfare, but controlled, run and administered by the HSE.

The staff in social welfare are under tremendous pressure, and also have a recruitment embargo- but they still have the decency to get their job done. The HSE unions are the scum of the earth as far as I'm concerned.

The fact that you are paranoid and too arsed lazy to read a thread properly doesnt mean you are a public servant.
If you have a problem with a story that a paper prints, then contact them.
