Ciaran Cuffe (yellow party) has sharply criticised criminal justice legislation which allows for non jury courts to deal with criminal gangs. He said it would have far reaching implications for the administration of justice. But he will support the Bill in the vote. Ciaran Cuffe you and your fellow party membes are gutless and low. The only thing you and your party want is money. You have sold your souls.

Dan Boyle in an interview in the Cork Independent said he had no problem with the bill itself ! So obivously he supports and approves of it !
He just wants to look at the review system !

This letter in the Irish Indo sums it up nicely.
Thursday July 16 2009
TUESDAY’S Seanad grandstanding by Green Senators Boyle and De Burca was a craven example of gesture politics.
The chamber was debating the new crime legislation, which the Government comfortably passed thanks to the support of Fine Gael.
It was at this moment that the two unelected (and unelectable, if European and general election results carry any weight) Greens decided to ‘see red'.
They voted against the motion, safe in the knowledge that their defiance was meaningless to the overall passage of the Bill.
While Dan Boyle will no doubt use this stunt to fill column inches, the simple fact is that his token opposition was not a brave stand based on principles; it was instead a classic act of yellow sleeveenism.
Surely it shows just how far the Greens have fallen from the moral high ground.

As far as I know the DPP can refer some criminal trials to the Special Criminal Court under current legislation. It may be very rare but that can be cured with policy changes within the DPP's office itself. Why is there a need for this new bill?
PR stunt if you ask me.

Agreed - a we're oh so tough on law and order blind to deflect attention for a little while from the ailing economy.
On that topic though, you gotta love the Creighton cretin suggesting that those who can't afford overseas hols should go to the races; a sort of let them eat cake philosophy:D
Thanks for noticing that about Creightion. It is the kind of thing you would expect to see on ' Spitting Images '.
Pity Dermot Morgan isnt around now !
