Fernhill would be possible the cheapest around the weekends. Mahon is around €32 - €34 at the weekends I think. Nice course also.

I'm playing Fota on the 19th June. Free round. Got a invite to play in a outing with FedEx. I played it about 7 - 8 years ago. Does anyone know if the layout has changed?

I think they moved the hole on the 14th green 6 feet to the left.

There is an official golf thread here, just not used very often. therefore hard to locate sometimes.
Seems to be a few golfers in here though.

you hit the nail on the head the majority here seem to be snobby toward it.
It`s like reverse racism lol we just need to wait for the affirmative action and we`ll be made.

Completely changed. They even added another 9 holes so it dpends on what day you go down as they rotate the 9 holes.

Also one of the worst golf courses around. Better off paying the few extra quid and playing Water Rock, Mahon, Lee Valley - although if you're a beginner Fernhill would suffice.

really want to get back into my golf, have only played a few games this year but knocked it about in the low 70's which gives me hope!

actually, do i have to hand in cards to get my handicap back if i havnt been an active member of a club for a few years?

Played Blarney a few times recently.....course needs a few years to mature and its probably the windiest place in Cork.....but a nice test all the same, greens are fantastic

Play a good bit myself, was out in douglas there today good condition. Do a spot of caddying down in the Old Head, lovely as a one-off but jaysus it gets tiresome listing off the same ol stuff to every group

Did the caddying myself as well for a couple of summers. Great craic filling the yank's full of shite about Leprechauns and the lusitania. Hard Work but great money and on a nice day its the nicest place in the world.Maybe your only chance to play such a course as well. We had great craic down there.

Its basic but not bad in fairness. Waterrock is in shabbier condition than Fernhill imo.

does anyone know of a good driving range close to the city, oh and one that has a putting green, would like to get the swing loosen up before i have a crack on the course.

Played Waterrock today, first day out in months, I'd be about an 18 handicap i reckon.

Tought the course was in poor enough condition, no white tees either.

there are driving ranges in Blarney and Ballincollig.
dont think they have a putting green

where abouts is the ballincollig one. all i am looking is one that has proper golf balls ( And no im not going to steel them) and not them old rubber shite that a load of places still use.

as for myself i have not played for a few years a few one off rounds but nothing to talk of.

Yes. There is now a minimum number of singles competition you must play in a year in order to maintain your handicap. I think it's 3. It's to stop guys getting crazy handicaps of 20 and over from some shite hole of a club in the middle of nowhere and going around playing opens and cleaning up.

Carrigdhoun driving range, on the rinaskiddy road, just after the shannonpark roundabout

midletonman
05-06-2009, 01:34 PM
the driving range in east cork isnt too far away from the city really, and you could nip onto the putting green near the clubhouse no bods.

nother question, will I have to become a member of a club again to hand in three cards or can i just rejoin the GUI?

played a game over at waterrock today, thought it was in good shape. greens were hgood, rough was long enough to punish you if you went into it.

surprised at how many people we saw playing off the yellows over there, its ridiculously straight forward off the yellows in fairness. its a good enough course from the back tees, although only about 3 holes requiring a long iron for the second.

might go back at the weekend.

played at the capella earlier in the week. havnt played there since it fiorst opened when i thought it was shite, that it wouldnt mature into much.it has, a few mopre years when the trees etc come on and it will be superb.

its in top condition, good course, greens were perfect, very fast, and not a blemish on them. only €35 aswell, fantastic course.

Was it tough? Im more of a hacker but looking for green fee paying courses, kinda sick of hitting WaterRock and Mahon all the time.

the greens are very tough, just not as used to quick greens with the amount of golf im playing really, requires a few proper shots, blind, doglegs for position etc. tough but not crazy tough.

whats the handicap?

raZor
16-07-2009, 06:00 PM
I don't have one, never played consistent golf to warrant applying for one, but gonna do it after the summer.

Played Lee Valley a few weeks back, the greens were crazy quick there as well.

its enjoyable off the whites, the back tees make it a tough place. id say similar difficulkty to lee valley. its great value for 35, when the price is brought into the equation waterrock pales in comparison (although waterrock is always pleasing cos you score well!)

I'll hit Capella so the next time, heading to Lee Valley for an evening tee off later on. Will be handy knowing how fast the greens are this time anyway.

I'm not a hard putter by any means, I was even underhitting some of the putts then, got the hang of them by back 9 some bit anyway.
