He doesn't, of course.
But just for a split second as he rose majestically in the air and headed home the second goal I thought about The Mighty Quark's theory that some players have a technique to defy gravity.
Then I shook my head and realised that Quark is still a thick cunt.
Great goal though.

I know a lot of ye dined out on Mighty Quarks Ronaldo hangs in the air thing for months but what he was getting at was correct

Messi's header tonight, like Ronaldos last year and on this ground v Roma, was a thing of beauty

Messi was very good and deserved the goal that killed the game

Mightyquark tried to say that it's only reserved for the footballing gods with special coaching or some such bullshit. Anybody with a football brain can do it.

I think what you and Quarky meant to say is that you can time your jump and the run up to it to perfection so that it appears you are hanging in the air.
But Stevie Babe - you cannot defy gravity.
It just ain't possible.
Don't make a fool of yourself.

The other point about this hanging in the air nonsense is that it's not only the player heading the ball that contributes to it. The pass/cross needs to be floated so that the finisher can read it early and jump to a good height to get the power and direction on it. Xavi did it beautifully tonight and deserves as much credit as Messi.

I never said that it was reserved for footballing gods...nice try.

So if anybody with a football brain can do it ..please please explain it.

So if anybody with a football brain can do it ..please please explain it.Explain what? How it's done? See my other post above - well directed floated pass, player up early. Can be done by any player anywhere at any time. Can also be fucked up by any player, anywhere at any time regardless of ability or coaching. It's all about timing the jump and just heading the ball properly. Basic kids stuff.

Oh dear...I dont bring this up...as you well know its the usual suspects that do this deed and seemingly you are now one....well done.

"Jump properly"..I like that ..please do go on..now we are getting places...

I remember years ago reading an interview with Les Ferdinand in the then soccer monthly 'Goal' where they asked him if he practised his jumps to get at headers, and amazing he said he hadn't, but now that you mention it, that's a good idea!

Yes timing a jump is part of it..but it actaully is possible to hang in the air for that split seconed..there is a technique that many of the great players have mastered...but it is a detail of individual coaching and the persons ability to adopt this technique. These are the margins that make great players but I understand if you dont see or recognise these subtle differences in techniques.:lol!::lo l!::lol!:

That's just class.

It looks beautiful when a player times a jump well to meet a floated pass but let's not kid ourselves into thinking that the player's momentum actually shifts to a point where he can defy gravity. Also, let's not kid ourselves into thinking that the player has to be particularly "great" to do it.

Agreed, a hand on the defenders shoulder would help fool some people though!
