Tipp showing us how to deal with KK here.
Fighting fire with fire, ripping into their backs, hitting sliotar, hurley and man with anything and everything. KK suddenly hitting wides.
Personally I think we'd have been all a lot better off just refereeing the game properly but the "real men" that like to see a bit of "physicality" in the game prefer this shit.
Fella getting ticked here for pulling across a guy off Fogarty off the ball now.

Tipp giving it everything and running Kilkenny all over the field.
Filthy shoulder into the head there in the closing stages, should have been a yellow at least
Mick Lyons
03-05-2009, 05:52 PM
It doesn't matter what rules system we have.
If the ref can't see that a shoulder/elbow straight into the face is a yellow card offence AT LEAST what hope is there.

The shame is that they're fine hurlers and would win All-Irelands without this sub-Loughnane shite.
I just think it's amazing that they've gotten away with this thing of playing the man before the ball lands with four years now.
It's so obvious and refs do nothing about it.
I was just laughing there to myself that the last game of hurling I played, I took in Cork AUL standards, tore around the place hitting everything that moved with the shoulder and (rightly probably) was being blown up for it. With the way they ref it at a higher level though, I was half way to being an IC forward! LOL.
Tipp's first goal, the KK defender was shouldered after he'd been chopped and lost the ball - just in case he recovered presumably.
Eddie Brennan's shoulder to your man's face there as well like.
Shefflin smacking your man in the face with the hurley and pulling the jersey at the same time.
C'mon the bar stool warriors. Explain to me how this shit is a worthy aspect of the game of hurling.

Tipp and to a lesser extent Dublin have shown the way against KK.
The starting point has to be to work like dogs and get stuck into them physically.
And not in a Davy Fitz/Waterford type of way.
Tipp were hitting lads with shoulders as they were coming out of defence.
That's what you have to do.
Don't give them time to pick out passes.

correct, you have to beat them at their own game. KK starting to pick off a few points in space now, if Tipp tire any bit they'll be in trouble. They have 5 subs again, shouldn't be afraid to use them

From a Cork point of view I think we are a long way from replicating tipps' performance.
If that was Cork playing kk today they wouldn't be able to match that physicality or intensity. Pa Cronin is At least 6 inches taller and probably about 2 stone heavier than tommy walsh yet he's afraid of his life of him.
At least we know how difficult the road ahead of us is, as if we didn't know already.

It's going to be a summer of attrition for you boys. Sheedy has shown the way and the refs are getting wise to ye.
Incidentally, I thought Tipp showed that booting the ball was a good way to get 30 yards of a clearance when you have two ginger, inbred mongs hanging off your neck.
Fair play to Cody, he responded well. KK were missing tackles left right and centre in the first half and Leinster's physicality at the rucks was sensational second half. Special credit to Kavanagh for that second effort at putting O'Brien's eye out with the back of the hurley. Shefflin showed all the class you'd expect of one of Ireland's greatest living sportsmen with two fine slaps across players' heads nowhere near the ball. Nice one.
Oh, and Richie Hogan was fantastic.
See, ye can actually hurl magnificently, why don't ye play the game and quit turning hurling into Ulster football?

Here's where it's time to draw a line under the players vs CB argument in one respect.
While KK are one extreme, Cork may be the other.
For me, there's a lot of Cork IC hurlers over-protected and indulged at club level and it does no good when it comes to the IC. I remember when Carrig robbed Ballymartle two years ago. Niall Mc went about for a 10 minute spell where he should have had about two red cards. Got Carrig back into it like. Name protected him. Noone gives a fuck about Niall Mc at IC level. He tried similar shit up in Ennis and saw the line.
In Cronin's case, same as any other young up and coming star in Cork, rather than being asked to step up and deal with some tough markers, they're under zero pressure and soon as they are, ref blows for a free straight away. His touch is poor. He's not used to the pace.
I watched Blackrock minors last year (cousin was playing for them) sure, twas too pedestrian and polite altogether. Fellas standing around loose ball afraid of hitting someone. Unreal like. Can't imagine that's how it is up in KK. At least when we went up there for a few challenge matches (Shamrocks?), we got a drop. Within five minutes, they were tearing strips off us, nothing friendly about it at all!

everyone did Youghal-Y, everyone did.
What I noticed yesterday is that when the Tipp lads were going in with the shoulders, the immediate KK reaction was to stick the butt of the hurley into the face. Walsh, Kavanagh, Brennan, they were all at it. They don't need to resort to that shit, they have enough strength and skill to take almost everything thrown at them.
