Dark weekend for F1 alright, Barricello nearly died on thursday free practice, austrian Ratzinburger was killed on the saturday, and another massive pile up at the first corner. hopefully we will never see a weekend like it again.
He was a genius all the same.

Complete legend. Always pushed the car to the limit. In the race before Imola that year he had lapped his teammate(Damon hill) before half the race had passed. Good article on the BBC site about it today.
When him and Prost were teammates Prost realised he'd do anything to win and told him if he wanted the world championship so much that he was willing to die for it then he could have it.
I can remember the day he died clearly.
A legend alright, remember watching himself and prost in the GPs as a kid. Tragic loss.

And the story goes he had an Austrian flag behind his seat to unfurl when he finished the race.

It feels like a lot of more than 15 years ago to me
My feelings on it were the same as Heysel, people knew early but refused to mention what had happened until later so as not to postpone the event
Don't forget about the guy who died in practice too (edit-referenced above)
watching it on live tv was surreal
2 million went to his funeral
A playboys sport in Brazil, but one in which united the country
