Watchin Argentina v Venezuala. Argentina 4-0 up and every time Seb Veron touches the ball the whole home crowd boo and whistle him. I think its sad that they would do that. You would understand if it was some overpaid dick playing for a club that he doesnt want to be with and is angling for a transfer but i think its bad form when its a guy playing for his country and trying so hard.

Bad form alright but they booed Messi as well. I mean for the love of fuck booing the two of them is crazy . At one stage they played a couple of one twos and the crowd went silent , the commentator said it was because they didn't know who to boo.

Get some perspective like. If kilbane played for them he'd be shot.

He was like that most of his career...

Or was that the joke?

I thought he was good for man utd but the pace of the english game came as a suprise and didnt suit him. But he gave his best for them. As for Chelsea, thats a different story. I think he just wanted to make a few easy bucks there and sample the London nitelife before Boca Juniors or some other Argentian club offered to take him back for a pittance which he took because he had already topped up his bank account with the easy english cash.

What he did for Chelsea was exactly what he did for United...fuck all and he earned lots...that's why Fergie shafted him...

I don't think he was after the nightlife in London, given that he was married with children at the time. Now, the fact that someone burgled his house in London and held a knife to his wife's throat during his time there, well that would spook the best of us...

Exactly. He couldn't handle the pressure of English football.

why were they booing messi? or veron for that matter?

saw highlights of the game only but messi's overall game is phenomenal. every week he tries to out do himself for goal of the season contender. last week he had a quiet game but still scored from the halfway line with unbelievable pace and close control. assholes that class him in the same bracket as fake ronaldo for talent, attitude and 'gamesmanship', take note.

It was being played at River Plate's ground and he plays for Estudiantes, a rival of theirs.
Only reason I can think of.

Jesus, just twigged they were at home.

That's poor form alright then.

Estudiantes aren't genuine rivals of River, but I think he played for Boca? No clue why they'd boo Messi.

I wouldn't get carried away on Conmebol qualifiers. If the SA round of qualifiers decided World Cups, Argentina would have been world champions every time since 2008, and Venezuela are traditionally the weakest side in the region. They have this almost All Black like tendency to peak at the wrong time. Perhaps their indifferent form this time round will change that?

They weren't booing Messi. They were actually cheering... therefore when he was passing it about with Veron it sounded like they were booing but they were actually going from boo to cheer and back again.

Wow... Estudiantes have and always will be the team he identifies himself with... played a whopping total of 17 games for Boca in 1996...

Those River fans don't do forgiving and forgetting, do they? :lol!:

this seems to change.....they used to be the weakest team in S.A but have actually improved in the last few years.

I think Bolivia and Peru are now fighting to avoid being bottom of the S.A WC qualifiers.....

They've improved to a small extent, but football is miles behind Baseball in popularity there... think it was a draw there that had the last Argentina boss shown the door.

for me messi makes up for not being old enough to appreciate maradonna in his pomp and for not having tg4 reception when the real ronaldo was kickin ass for barca

Et voila, 2 nil win for Venezuela vs Colombia last night...3 points from 5th spot (Urugway) which means a play off game vs a North American team.

Alternatively, one could point to a 4-0 win over a team who've done nothing (bar Copa America fluke in 2001) in the last 16 years as being no big deal, and the fact that they're only 6 points off the bottom having played a game more than pretty much everyone else...

Just in the interests of balance.

4-0 at home for Argentina against them is little more than minimum expectation.

Nailed on loss, of course.

Maybe not by 6-1 though!
