How the fawk did Glass Jaw pull this off, after the show he made of himself against Martinez?

"Dublin's Bernard Dunne will take on World champion Ricardo 'El Maestrito' Cordoba for the WBA Super Bantamweight title as world championship boxing returns to Ireland for the first time in 13 years.

The fight will take place at Dublin's O2 arena, on Saturday 21 March.

Dunne turns 29 next month, and he feels the timing is perfect for a shot at the WBA belt.

'This is the fight I've wanted since I first put on a pair of boxing gloves,' said Dunne.

'It's every boxer's dream to be a world champion and I'm no different. This is what I've worked my whole life for and now that the chance is here I want to grab it with both hands.'

Dunne added that home advantage made the fight even more of a dream come true, saying 'It's a huge coup to get the fight here, there's no doubt about that.'

'Every boxer wants to fight for a world title but to have it in your hometown is special.

'It's going to be an incredible experience and I know I'll thrive on that atmosphere. Cordoba's fought all around the world but he won't ever have experienced anything like the atmosphere in the O2, it's going to be very special.

'It's a fantastic venue and (the fight) can't come soon enough.'

A hat trick of impressive wins over South American opposition in 2008 secured Dunne a number 11 ranking with the WBA and a crack at Cordoba's World title.

The tall, Panamanian southpaw has just one defeat in his 37 pro fights, and won the title with a landslide points win over Luis Alberto Perez in his native country last September. "

Cordoba all the way.......hopefully. ..........must check up on him cos I've never heard of him (what's new with a Dunne opponent!!!).

Dunne rightfully should have to win back his european title and at least defend it once or twice before thinking about a world title fight............Ren dall Munroe, who took the title of Kiko Martinez has defended it twice if not 3 times at this stage and still hasn't been considered for a title shot.

this is a fucking mockery. Dunne is a terrible fighter and an asshole to boot. i hope he gets his ass handed to him, which he probably will!!

The champion wants a safe title defense which will spin some money. The TV revenue (if there is anything of note) will be the same regardless of where the fight is and there's a good chance they'll get a large crowd paying decent prices for a fight in Ireland. Little threat for a lot earned. Respect to the Cordoba fella.
Now Dunne being eligible at all is another matter entirely.......

The best comedy I've seen in recent years was Dunne being knocked on his hole within a minute, lets hope for something similar with this fight.

best of luck bernard. everyone in the country wants you to fail as usual .we always knock our own. you are up against it big time here but i admire your bravery taking a fight of this magnitude so soon after canning it......... cordoba must not be to worried at all if he lat the hunk dory world title fight take place in d-u-b-a-l-i-n..........

how would bernard dunne know about the atmosphere in the o2 arena havingnever boxed there. surely he does not think that ufc gig recently is a measure.....

was langers in my local before dunne got laid out.
remember roaring about how kiko martinez was goin to kill him just as the spanish national anthem started..... the locals started roaring at me that i should be singing the anthem along with him....

i went out for a fag and returned to deathly silence..... looked at the tv and dunne was on his back. I MISSED THE FUCKIN KNOCKOUT. couldnt stop laughing.

ex boxing coach says he has plenty of heart. he brought him to europeans but still reckons he was better in his own head. now that he has been knocked out so easily he is obviously a major target for any opponent (his jaw even more of a target) but in his own head he knows he can be knocked out at any time by any opponent..

come on panama

Should be an easy fight for Cordoba. There are 10 others ahead of Dunne in the rankings.

Have to admit that i agree with you on this one...although i would be delighted if he pulls it off and wins, i believe this is highly unlikely...mind you, the sight of every top criminal in Dublin plus the Neilstown skanger entourage that normally attend Hunky Dory's fights , i'd nearly be driven to shout for the other fella...

He won't be knocked out.
He will almost certainly lose.
Panamanian is younger {24}, fitter, taller, stronger, faster, with a longer reach,
is highly motivated but does NOT have a knock out punch either.

Having said that if he's seen the Kiko Martinez fight he might want
to finish early and box the ears off Dunne inside a round.

I know it's only bantamweight but it is a massive deal to even get a World Title fight to dublin..
and who knows he might get lucky on the night..

btw dunne was very very impressive...

I was there.
I was working at it.
And I had given him no chance.
I mean no chance.

I had watched DVD's of yer man Cordoba and
he looked faster and fitter. Younger and stronger.

Spoke to Jimmy Magee and he, to be fair, had been in camp
with Dunne for a day the week before last and was very impressed with
the condition he was in..

I couldn't see Dunne winning.
And I found out afterwards that he was behind for all 3 judges
in every round bar 3. Rounds 3,4 and 6 were the only ones he had managed
to win.
They had two rounds down all square and he lost all the rest.
So if he hadn't stopped him he would have lost the fight.

I'm still stunned by it.
Can't really believe he won a World Title.

I said it on another thread, Dunne earned my respect the other night for the way he fought and won. A year ago he'd have been laid out in the fifth and wouldn't have got back up.

Era fair play to him, he did well Saturday night........but he still has a lot to prove in my eyes. Will be interesting to see how he copes if/when he defends against guys in the Top 10 of the rankings (before last weekend Dunne was ranked 22nd in the IBO rankings, to Cordobas 10th). There's a lot of guys in the top 10 who he'll be trying his best to avoid fighting I'd imagine.

I'd actually like to see him fight against Rendall Munroe from the UK......he's took the European title off Kiko Martinez and has defended it a few times including a second fight against Martinez......might make a good match......and he's also ranked above Dunne in the world rankings.

Still, fair play to Dunne......he's got a good promotional team and they're doing a good job of raising the profile of boxing in the country.....it's something that's been missing a long time now.

I wouldn't write them off yet but i feel it will be too much of a gap

That said both the others will drop more points and Chelsea will always go till the end

Never say its over until mathematically its gone. Last week who would have thought Utd would lose those games? And here we are 'pool are playing out of their skin 1 point behind , i know a game in hand to utd but if 'pool play like they have been , who can beat them? Utd will be feeling pressure for sure , chelsea maybe hold onto the coat tails of those two but losing to spurs was a kick in the sweeneys. But it makes it much more interesting doesn't it?!!

The lads (utd) lost it a bit on saturday though , thats the worrying thing for you (supporters) it showed the pressure was there , they felt it. Maybe the break will work for you. Fergies a class act when it comes to sorting the teams heads out. Still not convinced about Beanhead , he seems more interested in Europe (silly to say when they are 2nd in the league) can't figure him out at all . And most of the 'pool fans i know all say the same thing. If it comes down mind games Utd will walk it.

Arsenal have to play all 3 teams they will have a say in the title

Goose looks like he may go all out for Europe i've a feeling Chelsea will beat Liverpool in Europe but Liverpool will now go all out for the title (they should)

anyway, it is good to have 3 teams vying for the title at the end of March
