I'd love to know what part of Scotland he's from cos he has the poshest english tally hoe scrumpets for tea accent i've ever heard. He sounds like a guy who should be in buckingham palace tending to her majesty's needs.
Not having a go like, best of luck to him he just doesn't sound scottish

This is a very good decision.Monty despite being a bit of a baby at times is the perfect choice for captain. He loves the Ryder cup and is very passionate about the competition.Looking forward to it already..

And a point that someone on SSN made was that monty has being playing and is still playing on the tour so he knows the players unlike Faldo.

That is true.He is playing alongside these lads all year long and knows their strenghts and weaknesses.

Im sure he will do a great job, Ryder Cup is a big deal for Monty, I wonder could he have given it another go as a player though....like Olazabal is.
If he becomes a winning captain I wonder will he be back as captain for 2014 in Loch Lomond.

i dont think either of their games are up to scratch at the moment but they have a long time to improve yet

which is true, monty plays in europe, he hangs out with the boys, so he's the perfect candidate to lead the team and a lot of players respect him.
the lads on the european tour may respect faldo as a player, but as a person i dont think so. faldo spends more time over in the states, so he didnt have a clue what was going on. for the love of god, why else would he have picked casey over darren clarke
monty said himself, that he didnt think he would make it on to the team next time. which is sad really, he was really missed at the ryder cup last year

C'mon Casey's Ryder Cup/Walker Cup record was good & has won big matchplay titles before. IIRC everyone was slating Faldo over picking Poulter & Casey was the expected pick. Just because hindsight doesnt look favourably on the whole thing it doesnt mean Clarke would have done a better job is a sure thing.

clarke at the time was in better form than casey, clarke won 2 or 3 tournaments last year. casey won non, casey win 2 weeks ago was the first in the 2 years. casey was only finding his game again at the time of the ryder cup. clarke had his game. but you see, clarke is too much of a character to be pushed around by faldo, and faldo knew that. faldo wanted players who looked up to him.

Poulter's inclusion caused much more of a stir than Casey's. Just because he ended up having a better Ryder Cup than most on the back of it doesnt hide the coverage the wildcard selections got.
To be honest I'd have picked Clarke & Casey as both had shown form in the month before the picks were made. Poulter proved Faldo right. Attention then turned a little on Casey due to the fact everyone wanted a bigger rod to slap Faldo with.
By the way which 2 would you have picked at the end of August last year?

i would have picked clarke and poulter to be honest, i was a little more pissed off with the inclusion of casey, while every one else was pissed at the inclusion of poulter, to be honest i cant for the life of me figure out why that was. i certainly wanted to wallop faldo, i cant listen to setanta sport any more cause if i hear his voice on the t.v i'm ready kick something at the t.v

The problem with Monty is that - like Faldo - he has a terrible relationship with the media and has a habit of flouncing when the going gets tough.
At the very least it should be an interesting captaincy !

I wouldnt go so far as to say he's got a terrible media relationship. I think he's quite articulate when it comes to interviews unlike Faldo who tries the smart ass option yet looks stupid. Saying that I do enjoy Faldo's commentary roles on the PGA Tour.
Sunbabe you'd have gone for Poulter yet accused Casey of being out of form in the build up to the Ryder Cup. Casey had a good month before the wildcards were picked yet Poulter showed little or no form most of the year barring 1 excellent round in the Open, which finished 2 months before the Ryder Cup began.

let me point out, at the time i was happy to have poulter in the ryder cup because of that performance at the british open  and i like him as a player, he's fiery and when he's good, he's excellent, although i have to say i was getting a little pissed off with him by the time ryder cup time came, because to be honest the boy went off and decided to play in america rather than gleneagles the week of the selections, once again making people speculate including me that he already got the pick, and to be honest, thats where faldo fawked up on so many levels even before the tournament started, he then went off. sure casey was coming into form, but he didnt do much during the ryder cup, while poulter did wonders during the ryder cup.
if i was choosing now, i would have chosen clarke and monty, but i bloody knew well at the time that faldo wasnt going to that, cause faldo knew bloody well clarke and monty wouldnt have taken his crap, and probably would have decked him in the team meeting and take control of the team. would have made things interesting. sure casey and poulter had experience, but compared to clarke and monty, they had nada, zero experience. ok, monty had no wins last year, but look back to 2004 when he played out of his skin when he got the captain's pick. you can see how much monty loves the ryder cup. clarke won 3 events during the year, but like i said faldo just plainly doesnt watch the european tour, if he did, he would have picked clarke
