It was a basic workshop, but the advantage of having Des teaching was great, his insight and advise was invaluable. It's more as you go along that you really learn things, at the time it was just a wee bit misleading to a degree. We got to gig in Cork Opera House and Vicar St, and other top comedy venues, we thought we were great, getting gigs was no problem because we were on the telly and we knew Des, who carries a lot of weight in the comedy circuit.

But along the way I was so lucky to meet and get advise from quite a lot of people,Brian in City Limits gave the best advise I have ever received, advise that I still adhere to to-day. Dave McSavage gave me a great break by getting me in the door of city Limits, and Jarleath Regan's advise also stands the test of time for me.

After Joy in the Hood some of us were on our own, for me the fact I saw two sides of the coin opened up my eyes big time.

Big time, and that for me was the biggest benefit of Joy in the Hood, the friends I made out of it. All the Cork lads kept close, Kevin moved to Dublin, but were still in contact. Colm "Ginger" attends some of the gigs. Two Dublin lads Eric and Willa did very well and got signed up by Des's agent Lisa Richards.

The best friends are Martin Beans Ward (Galway) and Darren Shine (Limerick), we three got to gig together in Manchester and have kept up weekly contact. Those two would be the closet contact for the Cork lads, and I hope that plans in the pipe line will bring their names way above a level that Joy in the hood ever did.

Aye quite a lot of people felt the same, the Limerick people thought the same. I can't really remember I have watched maybe twice since it aired.
