Hes twisting the knife in in todays sunday tribune. He says gerald was good enough for waterford twelve years ago wheter thats good enough now i dont know.It surprises me to hear it but it doesnt surprise me who is rebelling against him.People in hurling would know the cork lads want to manage themselves. This coming from someone from the county that was arrogant enough to think justin mccarthy was holding them back from an all ireland.

What Flynn and any of the rest of the Deise say isn't worth a hill of beans. If they knew anything about winning AI medals then I might be bothered with them. Until then..

Who gives a damn what that loser thinks ..
16 years of intercounty hurling and the highlight of his career is a cricket score hammering by Kilkenny.
Being also rans might be good enough in Waterford, it NEVER will be in Cork.

Flynn was a overweight choker on a team full of tramps who literally are bottlers.

In fairness, he was quoted in the context of his time with Waterford and how they only started going somewhere when Gerald took over, lest anyone think the Cork hurling dispute was the focus of the piece:
"Gerald was the start of proper training. Whether thats not good enough 12 years on, I don't know. It surprises me to hear that it isn't but then it doesn't surprise me who's rebelling against him. We'd all know that Cork lads want to manage themselves; he obviously wasn't allowing them to do what they were used to doing. Whether he's right or wrong I don't know, but he was right for us."

Rubbish.
If he wants to make disparaging remarks about the Cork panel he can sod off.
Ger's training might have been good enough for him thats probably why the cork lads 'who want to manage themselves' have the all Ireland medals in their back pockets and he won f**k all over the course of his career.
I don't care of he was the finest hurler of his generation, he's no business commenting on the current dispute. If his shower of bottlers had ever won something maybe he could talk. Biggest chokers in hurling. Noone cares what they think..

The day that Cork take advice from a Waterfrooze player on tips for success will never come.

Who stole all the pies ?
FFS when Gerald went to Waterford they were so f...cking useless that they couldn't get worse. The only way was up. Vincent O Brien (the horse trainer) would have improved them.
An endorsement from a Fat Waterford, Has-been Bottler isn't worth much in a county like Cork where winning the McCarthy Cup is the bench-mark.
Gerald's record as a coach is brutal. What did he ever win at intercounty level? Canon O Brien was the main man in 1990. Gerald was fired as Cork manager in 1982, if he wasn't good enough then how could he have improved by 2007 ?
Flynn, Shanahan and Eoin Kelly are show-boaters. When it was put up to them, they shit the course in Croke Park. If I was Flynn I would be too embarrased to speak to reporters.

Is everyone who never won an All-Ireland a choker/bottler? Was Kevin O'Brien less of a footballer because Wicklow never won anything? Likewise Declan Browne with Tipp? Flynn was man of the match in the Munster final of 2004 (one of the greatest games ever). Lethal free-taker. All-Star. 3 munster titles. Anyone who reckons he wasn't an outstanding hurler knows fuck all about the game. Fair enough ye strongly disagree with what he said but he's entitled to his opinion. And bear in mind it was Shannon interviewing him so the issue was always going to come up.

You're missing the point here, Mick. Everyone knows that even useless counties produce the odd half-decent player from time to time. No one is suggesting that Flynn wasn't a decent player.
We're saying that he is a fat bastard.
We're also saying that he is a choker - we're not saying that he's a choker because he didn't win an all-ireland but because he and all the other Waterford Hurlers (apart from that gurrier with the shaved head) shit themselves in the All-Ireland Final. They were able to perform in munster finals and in AI Semis but frooze on the big day.
Flynn said :- 'We'd all know that Cork Players want to manage themselves' -
These are the words of a bitter, jealous man who has never experienced the feeling of winning an All-Ireland. Cork Players, in stark contrast, are born winners who have walked the walk and so can talk the talk.
I don't care if he was being interviewed by Kieran Shannon or not - His words were offensive to Cork Players and were totally unecessary and unjustified.
He should learn to choose his comments more carefully.

P.Flynn is a hypocrite, his sly dig at the Cork panel conveniantly ignores the Waterford Lads ousting a certain Justin McCarthy during the summer, still selective memory is probably best when you're on the wrong side of probably the worst All Ireland capitualtion in the history of the game.
For this guy to have the neck to question the current Cork crop is hilarious.

Didnt produce the goods on a regular enough basis for all his talent. I can also recall him missing a free in the 2005 Munster semi-final against Cork from the 21 more or less straight in front of the posts.
Now on his comments about Cork well he's entitled to his opinion. However when you consider he was part of a panel that ousted their most successful coach in years (yes even more so than Gerald Mc for all his talk of how he was good enough for them) mid season then it seems to be sour grapes. The Cork hurlers have proved under the correct method of training & use of resources that they can win All-Irelands.
Flynn's comments annoy me but then again I wouldnt expect less from a man who has seen many a season ended by the Rebels.

You know, I can see why GAA games are increasingly painful to attend. Who the hell would bring their family along to hear a group of amateur players subjected to a relentless tirade of personal and racist (yes, we all know what the O'Halpíns put up with) abuse. Don't pretend it doesn't happen. GAA games are starting to head in the direction of 1980's English League football, as far as the crowds are concerned anyway.
Guys from every intercounty team spend their lives training and travelling around the country or little or no money. They provide you all with with hours of cheap entertainment. And judging from the level of debate on this board there's probably a few people who'd be reaching for the razor blade if it wasn't for them. Give them a bit of respect, will you. Ye're roaring and shouting about the treatment of the Cork players, while at the same time firing horrendous abuse at a guy who only plays for a different team by virtue of regions that the British invented to make it easier to tax us. If Paul Flynn has some respect for Ger McCarthy and thinks the Cork players are a bit power hungry, then he's no different to a lot of other GAA people around the country, and of course is at odds with the opinion of plenty others. I wouldn't agree with him, but so what? He's certainly adding more to the debate than the callous nonsense being thrown around here.

They're not. It was worse in the eighties by a long mile. The early ninties after the double were desperate. A tiny minority of uneducated people with low IQs shout shite like that at matches. Its far better now. Just a few old farmers roaring shite that you can hardly understand anyway.
You can't assume bandwagon jumpers like Youghal Paul are the voice of Cork GAA supporters.

Paul Flynn was a great player. But that doesn't excuse his mean-spirited dig at the Cork Hurlers.
He was arguably, entitled to voice his support for Gerald McCarthy. Its a pity that he and his colleagues didn't show the same respect for Justin McCarthy - a man that achieved far more with Waterford. All in all, given what happened to Justin surely everyone must agree that all Waterford Hurlers (present and recent past) might be better advised to wait a year or two before making any comment in relation to such disputes. Imagine how Justin feels reading these comments by Flynn and Hartley.
His comments about Cork Players wanting to manage themselves lets him down badly and hence the anger from many posters including myself.
Many posters are making the point that what's good enough for Waterford is not necessarily good enough for Cork as the two counties respective records would suggest - therefore the opinions of Waterford Players are both insensitive and irrelevant and best kept to themselves
Fergal Hartley also commented in the Echo tonight and voiced his respect for Gerald Mac but DID NOT take a cheap shot at Cork Hurlers. This man has some class - Flynn has none.

What sort of comment is this ? Have you got something against old people or farmers - or is it both?
Timmy McCarthy is a farmer with 3 all-ireland medals. Whats your problem with Youghal Exile - he is passionate about Cork and is 100% behind our hurlers. Waterford Hurlers are pathetic chokers.
Cork Hurlers knew that Gerald was a complete dud but they gave it their best effort and were happy to let the idiot retire with dignity. They even made a few public gestures of support. Waterford dumped Justin mid-season and publically humilated him. Shocking ! A Hurling Legend like Justin replaced by a unstable midget from Clare, in the middle of the season.
The only reason that Flynn is retiring now is because he knows what will happen when Waterford come up against Limerick. They will get hosed.
Big Dan Motor-mouth and Show-boat Kelly should retire now as well
