Can't wait for it. Anyone know what time it is on Irish time? Setanta coverage is kicking off at 11:00, does anyone what time the fight is scheduled to kick off?

Cheers.

Oh yeah baby! I find it a bit funny the way they have DMX music for Jones and Madonna for Calzaghe!

Got the Hatton/Mayweather fight, waste of money.
Didn't get the Hopkins/Calzaghe, seems like a good call

Should I get this?

Think it'll be a decent fight actually. Calzaghe has soooo much to lose here. Perfect record and historical significance being the main two. If he wins it'll give him a bit more credibility but people will say it was an over the hill Jones. Jones on the other hand has nothing to lose and loads to gain. If he wins he gets his credibility back completely and he has big money options all over the place. If he loses then it's no big deal because no one can take away what he achieved in his prime. With Mayweather Hatton most people deep down knew it was a true great in with a good fighter with great heart. This is a little different. Calzaghe will be expected to win but Jones is very dangerous and Calzaghe probably doesn't have the power to knock him out. Jones on the other hand could easily catch Calzaghe with a KO blow, especially if Joe comes out over excited, a bit like he did against Hopkins.

Personally I think Calzaghe will win it but he has WAY MORE to lose from this than Roy does. Apparently there is also monster odds available on Jones to KO Calzaghe in the early rounds and from a betting perspective those might be tempting. Remember Hopkins had Calzaghe on the floor early on and I'd say Jones Jnr is a stronger puncher than him. Heard to odds of an early KO are up above the 50's. Probably even higher on your side of the atlantic where support for Calzaghe will be even higher. Madness and potential to make great money for little loss.

Whilst I agree with what you are saying I think there is far too much of a deal being made about Jones being over the hill. Calzaghe is 36, Jones is 39. Its not really this huge generation barrier that its being made out to be.

Calzaghe still has his unbeaten confidence aura. Roy lost his after the Tarver fights.......first one he should have lost, second one he did, third one it was totally over. As soon as the idea/possibility of getting beaten comes into a boxers mind then he becomes a shadow of his former self. Notice the difference between a loss and being beaten also. When you give your best and still lose then doubts begin to creep in. The greatest example of this is Naseem Hamed who immediately realized he wasn't truly world class so he took his money and ran. Eubank is another who wasn't the same after the first defeat. I fear it may affect Hatton badly though he may also become a Holyfield (parody of himself) if the big money/huge support is still there to see him. Calzaghe and Jones may be similar age wise but in mental terms this is a prime guy versus an over the hill one imo.

With virtually any other boxer in the World I`d say you are 100% right, and im not saying you are wrong for a minute, but this is Roy Jones Jr, a living legend. I dont think past defeats are gonna be playing on his mind and I certainly dont think he will lack confidence.

Should be a cracking fight.

Should be a great contest in my opinion. You've got Calzaghe who throws punch after punch continuously for round after round. Though he is a complete "slapper" vs Jones Jr. One of the greatest fighters ever. His hand speed in his prime was incredible and he has the ability to knock Calzaghe out in an instant.

I'm going for a Calzaghe win, but it'll be close.

No way man, the thing that did it for Hamed was the drink driving thing. It destroyed his career.

Joe Calzaghe V Roy Jones .... should be a great fight.

agree with most but feel cazaghe would not get credit if he beat casius clay(when he didnt have the shakes).i fel a boxer should always always have one defeat. something very honourable about fighting even when you should probably not. cant fucking wait for this fight. i think it will be a classic.

Me too, if Calzaghe wins it will be on points, if Jones wins, could be a knockout.

If Calzaghe is in the shape he is reported to be in and shows up as the fighter we all know he can be, he will win this inside the distance. Calzaghes hand speed shouldnt underestimated either. Think Jones is only in it for the cash.

the two of them promoted the fight themselves, so i would imagine they BOTH made more than if warren had got a slice. sour grapes methinks.

On the fight itself, it didnt get going till about 5 in the morning FFS, thought it would have been about 2.30. Jones hurt Calzaghe bigtime in the first round, but credit to Calzaghe, he came out and played mind games with Jones after that, and won them too. It was a risky tactic to play Jones at his own game as one punch could easily have put paid to this plan, but it was clear by about the 6th round that Jones was really feeling the effects of the immense work rate that Calzaghe brought to the table.

Would have been great to see these two fight 10 years ago. I dont see the point in a re-match here, dont see the point of fighting Hopkins again either. Maybe Chad Dawson but it wouldnt have the same pay out as the other two, he should just retire now, but he probably wont.

he hurt him in the second all right, but did you see the v.t.? it was his forearm that connected for the drop.
