while i was looking at the footage of senna on you tube etc i saw down the bottom someone finally uploaded the footage of williamsons death. I remember seeing this for the first time when i was about 8. i was bawling. Even watching it now brings it all back. Personally for me it was worse than gilles, senna and all the other drivers (too many to mention) who died on track because unlike them he didnt die on impact.


the footage can be seen on youtube. its fairly intense stuff and what makes it even more gut wrenching is poor purley watching his friend die and not allowed do anything or all the crowds who wanted to get on track and help and were forced to sit and watch.

Something i never knew about it was that the car was then covered up and the race was allowed to finish. fuckin hell. i always knew the footage existed and the contraversial fall out from the lack of training the marshals etc had. but i actually never knew the race went on.

That in my view has to be the worst f1 moment of all time.
and to top it off what happened to purley the almost hero.
this clip shows the crash, a shorter version of purley trying to save him etc

Villeneuve's was pretty bad too from Zandvoort, when you see him being flung out of the car.....poor fucker. At least it was quick.

give me that ahead of burning to death. well they say the fumes killed him first like but how are they to know? purley said he never heard anything like the screams.

vills was bad grant it. especially being flung out but as you say it was fairly instant compared to 8 mins in a burning car before your outed, a blanket put over ya and the race continues.

God man, that was incredibly sad to watch. Fair fucking play to the guy for trying to rescue him right away. What a horrible way to lose a friend. That guy actually died in a plane crash after I read. Took up aerobatics or whatever it's called.

Had to go and find this afterwards to cheer me up.

theres a clip on you tube that shows alot of the f1 deaths.
its 9 mins long and in that clip with the music and the full clip of purley trying to save your man youd nearly be bawling. i have to admit seeing that williamson clip again brought a lump to the throat.

the only thing that ruins that clip for me and i know i shouldnt link ya to it because it totally spoils everything about purleys act is this interview by him the following day
