2 matches to go in the Dutch league and Twente Enschede are in the 2nd Champion's League spot behind AZ Alkmaar. Ajax and PSV can still catch them, but if he gets Enschede into the Champion's League, I'd say all would be forgiven.

Whilst trawling the interweb, I see that Az have won the Eredivisie and Schteve has guided his boys to second place.

Back to reality for the bluffer McLaren. Drew 0-0 away to Sporting last week, go 1 nil up in the first minute tonight at home and then sit on the lead until the 95th minute when the Sporting keeper comes up for a corner.

The ball glances off his head onto the shoulder of a Twente defender and on towards another Twente defender who hooks it into his own net. Comical stuff from Stevie's boys. You couldn't make it up.

Cash strapped Sporting who got bate 139-0 by Bayern a couple of months back in the CL - give it up Stevie.

I'd say the Portuguese league and its top teams are at a higher level than those in the Eredivise, no?

*edit* the co-efficient table says no.

Well Dan, Co-efficient or not, I'd still say man for man, and for what they've managed in the CL, Porto and Sporting are streets ahead of Ajax, Alkmar, Twente and Feyenoord... Even Benfica, who are wank, have players like Oscar Cardozo, Javier Saviola, David Suazo and Pablo Aimar to call on.

I would say so too, simply due to the fact that all the top Portuguese sides have far more recent pedigree in the CL proper than the Dutch (PSV excepted).

Still though, it doesn't look good the way Twente had everything going their way early in the game and couldn't press home.

Yeah, and it's ask for Sctheve to make up for it again with domestic achievements (although I guess they said the same last year too).

Do watch much of the Dutch league at all, Dan? Will it be an open field this year with the big three coming off the back of a weak period, and Van Gaal gone from AZ?

I don't get a chance to watch much of it, but I'd still keep in touch with what's going on through the web.

I'd expect Jol to bring Ajax back up a notch.

Not sure about PSV, it looks like they could be in for another tough season. They had a bad start at home to VVV Venlo the other day. They were 2-0 and 3-2 ahead but only managed a 3-3 draw. Their transfer activity doesn't look too impressive either.

AZ look steady enough but they lost an important player (Demy De Zeeuw) to Ajax.

Twente look like they might be in for a tough time too as they've lost a couple of regulars from last season and it also looks like Marko Arnautovic is finally heading for Inter.

I'd say it'll be between AZ and Ajax, Ajax to take the title.
