Peter Carroll is an amazing mind reader and a quirky comedian as a bonus. Peter first came to the public's attention, when in front of 300 people he correctly predicted the front page headlines of a national daily newspaper. Every show I have seen him in he has yet to fail to impress the audience. This is a rising star beyond any doubt.
(Keith Barry)..." Peter is the best by far I've seen by an Irish mentalist"
( Irish Daily Star)..." Mind boggling surreal laugh out loud show"
( Corkman )..." No idea how he does what he does".
Paddy O Shea has done more for tourism in Amsterdam than any tourist board. His revelations of holidays in this city will have you booking your next holiday. Paddy also fronted the Comedy Section at this years Castle Palooza Festival.
Seamus Burke hails from Co Clare and will tell you that when your stoned and pissed it is indeed a long long way from here to Clare, more so if you catch the ferry. Many would regard Seamus as Cork's answer to Bill Hicks.
Barry McCann hails from Longford but now resides in Midleton, a newcomer to the comedy circuit, Barry is this week's open spot.
Pat O Shea is this weeks Mc,
( Comedy Times ) " His warm and friendly manner wins the audience over every time")
( Manchester Evening News) " It's like you know him,,very funny,,don't miss the one liners"
( Comedy Dublin )..." Only brilliant, great irreverent craic"

For a person who doesn't understand gibberish, you write enough of it, pity you hide behind a name to promote it. As for this thread I prefer for it to focus on the Laughung Langers Comedy Club, which is more important, I'm sure you agree.

Well quite a few people seem surprised with the choice of Midleton, we went down the other day and got a great reception. Over a year ago I introduced the "show review" slips in the Craichouse. This was a way for audience to judge not only the comedians performances but also the club itself. I will always grab advise from any quarter, and one complaint we often came up with was from people living outside the city. they found it cheap to come in to club, but it was the expense of getting home. we started to get a regular crowd from Midleton who asked us if we would be prepared to bring a comedy club to the town, so we said yes.
As for a crowd, well you can never know, the interest seems huge, to a degree if we sold tickets before hand we would have sold out, this is according to local sources, plus we have an excellent Midleton based team in Karl and Barry.
If it works ( and I believe it will ) then everybody is a winner, the comedians get to experience a different audience and venue ( which is a sweet venue ) and the people in Midleton get a fun, cheap and local night out ( f**k, it's starting to sound like the "local shop" in a league of Gentlemen. i better stop before I freak myself out. Fingers crossed this will work, if it does then great, if not, well we've lost nothing.
I should also add that we have been asked to start another club in another town, so we will have to wait how this goes.

How did this go?? Many ppl there and will it be a regular thing?? I know the venue and its quiet intimate and would go if it was well supported and prob on better nite than thurs!!!

Hi Rebelangel, thanks for asking, the night went better than we could ever have hoped for.
At 8.45 the place had three people in there, at 9.00pm it was full, at 9.15 it was over packed. I will admit I was worried thinking not another half empty room, but thanks to the hard work of the local lads, Karl Ryan and Barry Magan, we sold out. As it was, it was only the second time I can remember ever having to tell people coming in to a comedy show that we were full, and couldn't fit anymore people in. We even had people standing at the back without elbow room.
It was great for the comedians, they were shitting it a bit before the night started. Being out side their comfort zone was really good for them, and God it felt so good to be able to actually pay people, and for once not out of my own pocket.
The audience were tough, if it wasn't funny they wouldn't laugh, but if you did well they supported you to the hilt. At the end of the night we actually had people coming up to us thanking us for a great night and asking if they could get tickets for the next night.
We will be holding regular comedy nights in Midleton, after last night, it will be a pleasure. we will start once a month, and slowly build it up more frequently, and we have a queue of comedians seeking slots so all will be well, with a lot of luck and hard work.
While I'm on it I must say a big thank you to Brendan, Ali, and the crowd of people who came down from Cork to support us, also the people of Midleton for their great support, and the staff and management of McDaids for laying everything out for us, back drop, spotlights, PA system, it really is a sweet venue.
So it looks like the Laughing Langers will become a regular feature on the Midleton scene. Also thanks to the comedians for their hard work, Paddy, Barry, Seamus and Peter.

This Sunday night the Laughing Langers Comedy Club make a special appearance at the Roundy Bar, Castle St. For the line up we have, I personally promise you a fun night.
Peter Carroll continues to amaze and wow audiences every where he performs. An amazing mind reader, Peter came to the publics attention, when in front of a 300 strong audience, he correctly predicted the front page headlines of a national daily newspaper. Keith Barry said "Peter is very funny, the best I've seen of an Irish mentalist". The Irish Daily Star said " a laugh out loud surreal show".
Pauline Curtin is a comedians ,comedian, and regarded by many as the "Queen of Irish Comedy", her insight in to life for a 40 odd year old Irish woman, is a lesson for all. Hot Press Magazine said " Our one to watch out for, a rising star".It is very rare to catch Pauline in Cork, do not miss this rare opportunity.
Paddy O' Shea, headlined the comedy section of this years Castle Palooza festival, with his "fist of fury", he continues to prove very popular on the College circuit.
Jamie O' Shea returns ( to-day actually) from three month stint in Canada, touring the various comedy club circuit. Former resident MC at the Craichouse, Jamie has a level of pure energy, rarely matched.
MC for the night is Pat O' Shea.

Yup, it will be a very good night, despite the disappearance of the posters I put up around town, we should still get a decent crowd.
The Roundy were very good to give their up stairs venue to the Craichouse when I asked them, and with the other weeks canceled, it will be good to have a great night in there.
Really looking forward to Pauline Curtin, it was a bonus to catch her in Cork.

Just a quick note to say thank you to every one who turned up last night to support the Laughing Langers Comedy Club.
It was an honor for us to have had Steven Seagal in the audience, the fact he had a Cork accent was a bonus, also thanks to his wife for joining in the fun. I must also mention Peter File from Togher, you gave as good as you got, fair play.
For a well mixed audience of people from USA, England, France, Clare, Galway, shandon, Fermoy, they all got in to the fun aspect and really enjoyed themselves, as you should do at a comedy club.
I think people got the full idea of what the Laughing Langers are all about, and for those who were present and might remember my words at the end of the night, well yes I will pay a price for my comments, but I do still stick by them, at my age I ain't going to bow to those mentioned.
Next Gig for the Laughing Langers will be on Friday 12th September in the Swan Bar, Drawbridge St.where I just might repeat my comments of last night.
Again cheers to everyone last night, I think Pauline Curtin might be getting a following here in Cork.

This Friday night, 12th September sees the launch of the Laughing Langers Comedy Club at our new home here in the city, "The Swan Bar",(upstairs) Drawbridge St. Our plans to bring down a big name comedian went up in smoke, but I must add the smoke was worth every cent and way more than any big name comedian.
So this Friday night we have Graham Storey from Meath (I actually doubt this as his accent is way too Dublin). Graham has a rather roguish approach to stand up which has paid off big time for him, this year he was resident MC at the Le Cheile festival, also a winner of the Lucky duck Award 2008, Graham has in a short space of time developed a big following in Dublin. Grahams appearance is sponsored by D.P O A. (Dublin Parole Officers Association), you will like this guy.
Paddy O Shea has grown very popular on the College circuit, his "fist of fury" routine earned him mention at this years Kilkenny Comedy Fringe Festival, Paddy also Headlined the Comedy section at this years Castle Palooza Festival.
Greg Marks hails from Dublin and has just canceled, he was booked to appear but is now attending a stag party in Sligo, he told his wife that he is appearing at the Laughing Langers so she doesn't yet that he is pulling a fast one and hopping of to Sligo with the lads, Oh dear I shouldn't have mentioned this as someone might tell his wife, and get him in to trouble.
Barry Magan holds this weeks open spot, hailing from Longford (actually true we checked it out even) but now lives in Midleton. A new comer to comedy Barry wowed the audience in Midleton some weeks back, a carpenter by trade Barry is also excellent at DIY.
MC Jamie O Shea is a power of energy on stage, having played the Cork Opera House and Vicar St, Jamie has recently returned from the Canadian Comedy circuit, where he went from open spot to Headliner within weeks.
We will also have one or two more comedians dropping in to make a guest appearance, either way it will be a fun filled night, and remember the Laughing langers Comedy Club is the only official safe place for langers every where.

This Thursday 25th September the Laughing Langers return to upstairs in McDaids Bar in Midleton. For anyone who is not doing anything special Thursday night, then this is the place to be. If you have never been to McDaids before, you will enjoy it, it really is a sweet venue with a good quality pint (how bad).
This week we really have a sweet line up, I know I will enjoy it all due to the class comedians that are on. I wont be doing the usual comedian biog that one will normally see, I will simply put it as I see these guys.
David Duff aka "Christ with a K", is in my opinion one of the most talented people out there at the moment. A highly talented singer/songwriter, it is worth it alone to just listen to his songs, each one displaying his talent, and how sick minded he really is. The name David Duff is one to keep an eye out for, depending on his intentions, this gut could go very far.
Colin Ryan hails from Dublin, and spent a few years in Cork studying at UCC. He did very well on the local scene both as MC and headliner, and started to gather a following before returning to Dublin. I remember seeing him one night in the old Tikki lounge, when a few hecklers were causing one or two problems for some of the inexperienced comedians, like a true pro Colin destroyed them within seconds, the hecklers remained quite for the rest of the evening.
Enda Muldoon is a comedian I have only seen perform once, and that one time was enough. I immediately booked him for the Laughing Langers. He is fresh and different from the main stream comedians, he is unique, and I am really looking forward to seeing him Thursday night, you will too.
Ben Buckley thakes this week open spot, and a great open spot he is. Ben comes from Tipperary but has been attending UCC for the past few years, at this stage he is starting to sound like a Cork person. He has spent the past number of months plying his new trade as comedian on the Dublin circuit, where he has become very popular with local audiences. His humour is quirky and you will take a shine to him as most people have.
MC Jamie O Shea recently returned from Canada where he tried out his own unique style of stand up with the local Canadians. He has strong energy and one of the best to get the audience going. i suppose for me the best thing about Jamie is you never know what route he is going to take, anything can set him off in another direction.
Well thats the line up as such, who knows one or two more comedians might drop in and do a few minutes. Any way it will be a good night, but if it's anything like the last night, get in early and get a seat, as the last night the place was packed.

You are of course referring to the MC, no nepotism involved. He's part of the Laughing Langers, so as well as MC'ing he will also help set up the place, check the PA system, hand out flyers, and is of course more than capable of doing the job required. Were he not, then he wouldn't be doing it.
Plus more importantly I get to find out what really did go on in Canada, it can't have been all museums and waterfalls.

29-09-2008, 12:42 PM
Hi rebelangel, the 2nd night went ok, but not great. We had a very small audience of about 17+,although Midleton was very quite that night, the main f**k up lies with me, I didn't get the posters up earlier. This will not happen again, as it is were working on the next poster and should have them up by next week.
The biggest disappointment was David Duff had to go away for a show on red fm, so he never got to perform. I will have him back again as I really feel that the Midleton crowd will love his material.
Enda Muldoon and Colin Ryan went down very well, and we had an extra performance on the way back home in the taxi with Enda singing Garth Brooks song, the same song over and over.
But at least the night went ahead, so that was good. We really have to get cracking on Midleton as we have been approached by some brilliant comedians about possible gigs in Midleton, and as these guys have been on TV they will not be cheap, so we need to start building up the audience numbers and the kitty.
Despite what many have said to me I still think Midleton can work, the audience are tough though, you really know if you've done a poor routine, which for every comedian is worth it's weight in Gold.
So now it's a case of getting cracking on next months gig and try to pack the place fro the comedians.

Well it's Midleton time again for the Laughing Langers as we return on Thursday 23rd October in our home in McDaids on Main St. As per usual I won't give the usual preview you see elsewhere just my own viewpoint on the comedians.
Alan Hurley is one of the most versatile of the Cork comedians, and also one of my own personal favorites, his stand up is different from everyone else, and just to add to it he also has a complete musical routine. UCC comedian of the year 2006, Alan proves to be a favorite with audiences every where, his impersonations of John Spillane are not to be missed, also I should add, Alan has the best "finishing" gag I've seen of any Irish Comedian.
Breda O Donnall hails from Co Limerick and I reckon is one to watch out for, depending on her future plans the girl should go very far. She has a great grasp on country life and delivers a very well polished routine, she also continues to be very popular with Cork audiences.
Johnny P hails from Listowel Co Kerry, and is now one of the most regular faces on the Cork comedy circuit. He gets in to his sets nice and easy going but speeds up as the set goes on. His impersonations are bang on and dare I say it, but if he has a few pints you end up watching pure magic. Johnny P was also voted Kerry comedian of the year 2006, 2007 by God knows who, but as Kerry comedians go, he is the best from the Kingdom you will see anywhere.
Ben Buckley comes from Tipp and as far as I know this is actually his Cork Debut. Ben only took up Stand up some months back and has done very well on the Dublin circuit. He did his "Passing out Test" at this years Kilkenny Comedy Festival where in his first gig he had to face a bunch of hardy Hecklers, the end result was they bought him drink for the night, this gut I am so looking forward to see perform.
Jamie O Shea is MC for the night, and has plenty of experience behind him. One of the most energetic comedians around, he recently returned from a great stint on the Canadian comedy circuit.
So thats the line up, it will be a great night, with some of my own personal favorites performing. Anybody around Midleton Thursday night why not pop along and try something different for a night out.

The Laughing Langers Comedy Club take up residence this Friday night (14th November) in the Mo Chuilse Bar, Blarney St. The show kicks off sharply at 8.50pm and ends at 10.00pm, when the house DJ takes over. So if you want a bit of craic and music, then Mo Chuilse brings you the very best of both worlds.
This week the Laughing Langers present Peter Carroll, an amazing mind reader and talented comedian. Keith Barry describes Peter as "the best Irish mentalist I have seen", high praise but well justified. Peter combines his magic, mind reading and humor to produce one of the most unique shows on the circuit to-day. this guy is on the way up, and certainly not to be missed.
Jamie O' Shea is back after some very successful gigs on the Canadian comedy circuit. A talented song writer, he combines this with fast comedy, with his "JCB Song" always scoring well with younger audiences.
MC Pat O' Shea, a head full of gray hairs, and a story to match each hair.Manchester Evening News described him as "fast and funny, really gets the audience on board, it's like you know him, don't miss the one liners."
So for the only "Free" comedy club in Cork, why not drop in for the craic and the pint,

Only throwing the above on again because it would seem that yet once again RTE aertel page 334 have problems listing some comedy gig. Though to be fair it should be noted the Dublin comedy clubs never have this problem for some unexplained reason. Same for the last two years with regards to the listings for all the comedy clubs on the Kilkenny comedy fringe, all the gigs for the "proper" festival got listed, but none of the fringe clubs got any listing. Maybe if I give the club as having a "Dublin" address we might achieve some level of success.

The next Cork gig is in the roundy Bar on Sunday 14th December. The six people who have been doing the workshop for the past 4 weeks will perform their 1st ever stand up gig on the night. Full details on this gig will be posted shortly.
The next gig will be in McDaids in Midleton on Thursday 18th, again full details will be posted, but some of the acts on the night will be Dave "Donkey" Dineen, and Ali Kean, and Karl Ryan.
We are also working on a short film project with the American comedian Eric Shantz. I can't go in to details yet on this project, but if the experts are correct, it will cause quite a rumble, and not just in Ireland. The film will also feature some lesser known comedians, and will if calculations are correct, should get their faces out to at least 1,000,000 people world wide.

This Thursday 18th Dec, the Laughing Langers bring you a night of Comedy in McDaids Midleton with,,,,,wait for it,,,,,,,, A mulled wine and mince pie reception, oh how grand we are, fairs due to McDaids for putting this on for us. So we have on Thursday,
Ali Keane, a very talented actor who also does some excellent stand up, he has perhaps some of the filthiest songs I have heard in a long time.
Karl Ryan, one of the workshop comics performs in front of his home town, very clean material, just to make up for Ali.
Paddy O Shea, the guy with the prosthetic hand who has done more for the tourism industry in Amsterdam than any tourist board.
Dave Dineen, Mr Cork Comedy Festival himself, folks bring some tissue with you, not for tears but if he drops his pants like he did last week, he will need something to wipe it. this guy has been barred form more comedy clubs than I know.
Chris Kent, just back from a year and a half of gigging all over Australia and New Zealand. Very popular with Irish audiences before he left, this guy is marked for greatness.
So thats about it, unless we get some comedians dropping in who might do a few minutes, it should be a fun night.

Not at all, and I have explained this before, Plus he has a car, I don't, a taxi back normally costs me around €35 +, after paying out everything I'm usually broke, so I'm saving myself taxi fare, plus he's very popular with the younger audience, and he can MC if the need arises, more importantly he is one of the founding members of the Laughing Langers.

Just to say a huge thank you to everyone for a great night last night. Thank you to the Management and Staff of McDaids for laying on a mulled wine reception, incidentally the nicest mulled wine I have ever tasted my compliments to your chef.
To the comedians Ali Keane, Karl Ryan, Paddy O Shea, and of course Chris Kent, a major thank you.
To the audience with special thanks to Brendan, and of course the gang from UCC, thank you for supporting the night and making it standing room only.
To everyone in Midleton may we wish you a peaceful, safe and Merry Christmas to you and your families.

Winter Deferr, one of the stars of Channel 4's "Coach Trip" , Winter has been doing the comedy circuit for the past three years with noticeable interest in the Dublin circuit.
Tim Hadfield, aka "The West Cork Wizard", the most popular English comic on the Irish circuit. I did try a few places but I had no luck, I have been kept busy with the workshops and writing, but I am waiting for one guy to get back to me. If I do start a new club it will be on the same basis as the Midleton club, I will start the club off and then hand it over to other people to run, health reasons prevent me from standing out in the pissing rain every week handing out flyers.
Also anyone out there with PR experience or knowledge, I really need advice from someone.
In the mean time you still have comedy with the Craichouse every Sat night in the LV and an hour session every Tuesday night in Cavanaghs, and City Limits every week, so still a lot going on, but there is room for a lot more, once the door price is still kept cheap, and the quality of the comedians is of a good level. :D
P.S. Anyone know of a venue interested in hoasting a comedy club ???????????

Two late additions to the line up are Ben Buckley, Ben has been doing comedy for about the past year, but man he is storming the comedy scene, this guy's laid back approach is good, keep an eye out for this guy in the near future.

The gig in Mayfield went down a storm, a sell out show, and the four teenagers Nathan Conroy, Stephen O Reilly, Aileen Byrne and Jonathan O Donoghue were all fantastic, also thanks to the youth workers Brenda, Maraid and Niall of Ogra Chorcai.Thank you also Geo and Peter Carroll for doing sets to support the kids.
As for the gig in Slainte, man I was knackered, but cheers for all who came to support the comedians Geo, Paddy, Graham Storey, Seamus Burke, Jamie for taking over as MC.
The biggest kick of the night had to be PROC's own Mr. Mister, his first gig and he really stole the night, no shit but the best newcomer I've seen since Danial Cahill, well done, the guy is one to watch out for. Lets start a Mr. Mister fan club.

How's Jesus?
Hi Mary!
Are you doing it again?
Don't know about getting up to one, as you know the baby "jesus" might stop me.
If you are doing one in a couple of months I'd try to catch it. Pat gave you a very good review in fairness.

Well the Laughing Langers are back for some more craic and fun at Douglas G.A.A. Club on this Friday 18th September. The night is organised by Cork Comedy Project in aid of Cork Community Radio. Entry is €7.00 and all proceeds will go to the CCR. The night will have an MC, three comedians and Peter Carroll (Mind Reader), and yes the usual rule applies, if you don't enjoy the night you get a full refund (remember comedy should be about the craic and not the money). Line up for the night will be,
Barry Magan (Longford) Barry runs the East Cork Comedy Club in Midleton, as well as the Pat Shortt comedy nights in Castlematyr. Barry has been doing Stand Up for about a year and has a nice innocent quality about him that appeals to the audience.
Paddy O Shea (Cork) Paddy returns to the comedy after taking a break to concentrate on writing and filming. Paddy has gigged all over Ireland and is very popular on the College circuit.
Johnny P (Kerry) John runs the Craichouse Comedy club and is a veteran at this stage, having won the Kerry Comedian of the Year for the past 3 years. Very quick off the mark, I personnally love the guy if he has a few pints on him, his impersonations are some of the best I have heard. He is also the only comedian I allow on stage after a few scoups.
Peter Carroll (Mallow) Peter is the Headline Act, and the best pound for pound entertainer I have come across. An amazing mind reader Peter incorporates comedy in to his act to a level that his act is the most unique in the country. This guy I highly recommend to people, he has gigged all over Ireland, UK mainland Europe and the US. The night is worth it alone just to see Peter in action.
MC is well, it's me and I will be on form and sober.
So folks if your around why not drop in and support the new Cork Community Radio, there will also be a raffle on the night and the craic will be great.

Just to say a big thank you to John P, Barry Magan and Peter Carroll for donating their time and talent for the fundraiser last . Also thanks to Paddy and Jamie for the support and Cork Community Radio and Douglas G.A.A. Club for organising the hall and the night.
Judging by the after gig response everyone had a great night, and Peter shocked everyone with his 100% correct predictions, what a talent. Due to the reactions from last night we will be hitting more local G.A.A. clubs for comedy nights, anyone involved in a local G.A.A. Club that would like to have a comedy night give me a shout.

Well the Laughing Langers Comedy Club makes a return to raise funds for the Celtic Supporters Fund Raising Group. We like to do things slightly different at the Laughing Langers, which makes our nights different from the norm (and funnier).
We make a return to the North side at the Top of the Hill Bar on Friday 9th September. Line up is as follows,
Greg Marks (Dublin)
Greg is proving to be very popular on the circuit both here and in the UK, a hard working comedian he has proven to do very well with Cork audiences.
Barry Magan (Longford)
The smiling comic runs the East Cork Comedy Club and Pat Shortt's Comedy Club. No matter what he does the audience on the north side loves this guy, went down a treat with the folks from Knocknaheeny.
Geo Show (Dublin)
Geo is a veteran on the circuit at this stage and very well known in the Dublin clubs. Rarely seen here in Cork, did a blinder for me in Mayfield some time back.
Graham Storey (Meath)
Graham is a natural comic (and an amazing singer) who is back after a break from the comedy, did very well at this years Indiependence Music Festival.
Stephen Murphy (Cork)
Stephen is fairly new to the circuit but already has started to gain a following on the local scene with regular slots in Coco's.
MC Pat O' Shea (Knocknaheeny)
Well it's my PA system so I have to get a gig.

Top of the Hill Bar
Friday 9th September
Doors open 9.pm
Tickets €5.00 (available for the Bar)
So if your from the Norrieland area and looking for a bit of fun and craic, why not pop along.
Billy Ahern (East Cork)
Billy is very very very popular with the female audience ( a bit of eye candy, though I don't see it) has done very well with some tough audiences.
