Its a case of when or rather than if the party collapses particurlarly when their leader ciaran cannon is the invisible man of Irish politics.
There's one thing that could possibly save them and that's the upcoming bye-election in Dublin South. If they can persuade Liz O'Donnell to return to national politics or Fiona O'Malley to switch constituency, they could end up going into that with a candidate with a higher profile that any of the other parties. Fine Gael's sitting TDs will have no desire to see a colleague elected. The same could also be said for Eoin Ryan of the Greens. Transfers from the two of them could just see the PDs home.
That is assuming the bye-election happens before the PDs fold.

Im surprised they picked an absolute unknown as their leader.

A poll a while back showed them exisiting only in the margin of error...
Party rules said it had to be a sitting member of the Oireachtas, which left only four candidates. Harney and Grealish didn't want it, so that only left Cannon and O'Malley. Possibly they made the wrong choice, but neither would inspire.
