Just out of interest have you or anyone you know who has L Plates being stopped by the gardai under the new law to crack down on unaccompanied learner Drivers?

My sister and most of her friends have been driving around without full licensed drivers without a bother in Cork. No checkpoints anywhere AFAIK.

I'm on second provisional, I've been driving a bit since July 1st (just to work and back, not as much as usual). No problems so far (touch wood)

how about the learners going around without even 'L' signs up. what if they were stopped what would happen?

It is an offence for a learner driver to drive without l plates. Presumably the gardai would fine them for that as well as for driving unaccompanied.

can i ask one question about the whole learners driving law thing..does it really matter? i know ppl with full licences who shouldnt be allow to cycle bicycle let alone cars, and learners who are great drivers no problems?

That comment about learner drivers being great drivers doesnt apply to all of them. Im a learner driver as are most of my friends and were not the best drivers in the world. While the ban affects me and Im still driving without a full license driver, I still support it fundmentally as it makes sense.

I do agree that they are some full license drivers that shouldnt be on the road, but that unfortunatly is life.

Got stopped at a checkpoint on the 1st of july at 3 in the day. Had no L plates up but at the time i was a learner driver, passed the test 2 days ago thank god.
The guard looked at the nct/insurance and tax disc's, the tax was out of date by 2 months and just waved me on. Dont think there really going to enforce it for another few months.
