View Full Version : Ricky Hatton..
Anyone catch the story about him switching his next fight from New York to Las Vegas because it would be cheaper? Can someone explain to me how it would be cheaper for the fans?
Surely it would be more expensive to fly to Vegas than New York from the UK. I really feel he is playing up the working class hero im all for the fans type thing.

New York in the run up to Christmas is super pricey! Most the flights there would be full of Brits trying to get some cheap shopping done before the holidays especially with the weak dollar.
Las Vegas would be much cheaper at that time of year. Loads of available hotel rooms and plenty of seats available on the flights there.

Hatton is yesterday's news since he was twatted by Mayweather with one hand tied behind his back.
Now Calzaghe - there's a fighter.

Not sure i fully agree with that. Im sure you can get cheap hotels outside of Manhattan and would the flights really be much cheaper? I suppose i could check it out but im too lazy :D
Manchester to New York is €402.
Manchester to Vegas is €472.
Flying out 18th of November and flying back on the 24th of November.
Did this through ebookers.ie.
So flight to New York is cheaper it appears and also factor in extra jet lag aswell(most bozxing fans are fat and unfit, does ricky care about the extra jet lag!!!??). What about the home fans who want to see it a resonable time. Vegas rules that out.
He is in me hole doing it for the fans.

Oh Jesus
Vegas is by far cheaper than NY. Vegas hotel rooms are for dirt cheap as they want your money to be blown on gaming etc... That's how Vegas works.
Hatton is the best pound for pound boxer in the world.

Yes, but you're potentially saving hundreds and hundreds in the accommodation.

November 20th to 24th. 1 bedroom 2 adults
MGM Grand
Cheapest $56.00 per night 2 blocks from the strip. Loads more just off the strip between $60 and $90 per night. In the MGM Grand itself $290.00 per night
Madison Square Garden
Cheapest $223.20 per night. Average between $250 and $400 per night.
Now the dates and venues were guesses but I took a weekend in mid/late November. Factor in the cost of everything else in Manhattan versus Vegas and there is frankly no comparison. Also, actual travelling fans are more likely to get tickets in Vegas than in NYC where the ex-pat community would be huge and might snap a load of them up.

Era, i dunna know. They could get cheap hostels in NYC which are probaly the quivalent of a cheap hotel in Vegas. Also 20 mins on a train to Queens and im sure they could get a cheap hotel.

the average fat lager drinking brit doesnt have the common sense to look for cheaper options such as hostels, they will generally lookin for the easiest option, i.e what ever is advertised in the travel shop window,
vegas is dirt cheap, have to add in the free booze you get for playin even just 25 cent slot machines and you have a winner

Hatton is the best pound for pound boxer in the world.
My arse he is.........and I'm a big hatton fan before anything else is said.
P4P, Miguel Cotto & Manny Pacqiao are far better than him for one thing........Cotto would absolutely destroy him if they ever meet (I doubt it will ever happen tbh!) and I would fancy Manny as well if they meet eventually next year.
Hatton hasn't fought any huge names either, and his last few fights, mayweather aside, have been quite poor...once he stepped up the class, he just wasnt' able to bully people like he was used to.....and most of the biggish names he's fought were well past it..........costa tzysu was well past his best when they fought, and mayweather simply outclassed him.....he's a damn exciting fighter to watch though, and that's his draw as opposed to his boxing skills.......and it's what keeps the crowds coming back.
He might be one of the biggest draws in boxing at the moment, but there's no way in hell he's amongst the best pound for pound

Let's see now - he only just scraped through his last fight and simply wasn't in the same league as Mayweather who retired because there was no-one else to beat.
Hatton is well past his sell-by date and even his biggest fans in the boxing media are agreed he should retire now before he takes any more serious damage.
You are, unfortunately,ta lking out of your hole.

im looking forward to the malignaggi (sp?) fight, i recently watched his fight with cotto and pauli pushed him all the way and rattled him on more than a few occasions and imo hatton will beat malignaggi but cotto is much bigger now so your probably right there however as tough and as good as manny is i think the step up to light-welter will be one step to far much like hatton v mayweather

Well, the thing about manny is that he walks around at just under 11stone, and is quite a big guy already even at lightweight, so the jump to light welter isn't going to be much for him........i think, like mayweather, he will be just that little bit too quick for hatton, will catch him with 3/4 shot combos through the fight and will break him down..........hatton s always been able to hit...remember that, and also, mayweather used fight amongst the smaller fellas as well!
As for malligngi, should be a good fight, but i think mallinagi is more about the talk than anything......he's a very decent boxer, but hatton will bully him.....mallignagi doesn't have ko power, so stopping hatton isn't going to happen there.

Good win alright, though Malignaggi was woefully inadequate.
Can't see Mayweather being tempted back for a re-match.
De La Hoya could be an interesting fight

Malignaggi is far to easy to hit and doesnt have a big punch. His fast feet and hands will get him through against lesser fighters but not to the top level.
Hatton/De La Hoya will happen now ,surely, regardless of how De La Hoya gets on Pacquaio. Personally I think Pacquaio would beat De La Hoya and Hatton.
Hatton will never fight Cotto because he would lose that to.
So my guess is 1 more big pay day for Hatton against De La Hoya in Wembley or Manchester.

There is already a verbal agreement between Hatton and Golden Boy Promotions for a summer fight at Wembley next year but as Louis B.Mayer famously once said a verbal agreement ain't worth the paper it's written on.
It's whoever has the most bucks.

Saw something today about him being advised to give up the drink
Surely in 2008 a sportsman of his calibre is not on the sauce?
I know some of the players in team sports get away with it but i would have assumed a boxer would have been drink free

Ya, it's crazy alright. Just means that there is a big "what if" factor when his career eventually does come to an end. Mayweather for example might be a prick but he's an incredible athlete. In a sport like that you have to be at your absolute best to go in with the greats. -AmadeusDC-

I don't think there will be any "what if" question with Ricky when he retires. Ricky has proven himself to be the best at his own weight in the world, however he is not in the class of a Mayweather. Him boosing or not boosing has not and would not affect either of those facts. The boosing will shorten his career - that is all. I don't think anybody thinks Ricky would have done better had he not being drinking. However if he continues to boose it up at his age now it will affect his performances and shorten his career.

Surely though in a sport of small margins it could possibly make a difference even now
I'm not saying he would have beaten Floyd but it certainly would have helped if he was dry surely?

I hear what you are saying but not with Floyd to be honest. Even if Ricky never touched a drink all his life, then he still would not have beaten Floyd who is a better athlete and better boxer.

Hatton's style has always been aggression and he has no defence against the well-aimed jab.
Mayweather was able to penetrate his guard with ease - it was a masterclass in world-class boxing and Hatton will never be in that league.
