Is Cork the best supported county in Ireland when it comes to GAA ? Dublin has also got big support but not as big as Cork

Cork have a decent following of diehards but despite having huge numbers at the big games I dont think Cork teams get the support they should. If the Cork hurlers were playing in Thurles next week in the Munster Final then the support would be huge. However will the same numbers go to the Dublin game next week? I dont think so.

thinking max 15,000 at the Dubs game next week. At a push 25,000 at the football game this week.
But if it's Cork V Waterford in two weeks time... 40K plus

I think a big factor in the increased numbers for big games is the cost of going to the games. The people of Cork have a lot of successful teams to support ie Munster going all the way to European final, Cork hurlers and footballers get a good run every year, Cork City have had good cup runs and league success in recent years. This makes it hard for people who support all Cork sport to afford to go to all the games so they prioritise.

Having said that I'll manage to make them all!

These days every sport is also on TV so there's a lot more competition from that for the turstyles too.

I dont think cost is the major thing though. For me its peoples mentality regarding how big the game is. If people were loaded theres still a chance they wouldnt turn up in the Pairc next Sunday and/or next Saturday against Dublin but would as RR is saying for a game against Waterford or Galway in the qualifiers.

Cork in hurling, dublin in football. Waterford are very well supported. if you ever go through the city there would be flags everywhere

remember the dubs only support one code as do most other counties we are lucky that we have two decent enough teams to support

Tis manageable for those of us who are single with no kids but yeah...the cost is huge if you are a fan of all of the above ....christ, when i think of the amount i have shelled out in the last few years supporting Cork, munster, City and man Utd...in fact i don't want to think about it...

But it is all worth it, even the multiple hangovers....

And this is the reason the GAA is full of bandwagon supporters. They only turn up for the big games, i.e. Waterford, Tipp, Limerick, Kilkenny. when in fact the Dublin game is one of the biggest games of the season so far.

Leave em off, more room for the rest of us

Don't think the players will take them lightly. The Dubs really put it up to Wexford and should have beat them to make the LF. The Dubs are a lot stronger than last few years. It's only a matter of time before they make the break through. Maybe this year but I hope not.

They missed their chance the first day against Wexford. I'd love to see them beating Cork, but its not going to happen.

Nobody is saying that they support the Dubs. We are just saying that they were unlucky not to beat Wexford in their first game and I think it will be only a matter of time before they will reach or even win a LF.

As a neutral, I'd love to see Dublin beat Cork in the hurling. It'd be great for the game IMO.

As I said though, its not going to happen

Always found Wexford a well supported team even with their recent decline and hammerings they still came back for more.
Cork are far from a well numbered and loyal supported county, football support is a disgrace in the last 2 years down in pairc ui rinn in league matches we have being out-numbered by the likes of Monaghan and Fermanagh and the last time we played Dublin in the league outnumbered easily 2 to 1. The championship last year outnumbered by sligo, Louth and Meath, for god sake like

Football might aswell not exsist in Cork. Cork is a hurling county and even at that the support for the team is crap during the league. Its championship or nothing for Corks Hurling fans.

thats a bit harsh wheneve the munster football final is in killareney cork fans always outnumber the animals and theres always a decent support in croke park whenever the football team play there.

league turnout is poor but when it counts i think the football supporters come out.
