France coach Raymond Domenech will remain in charge of the national team despite their failure at Euro 2008.
Domenech's position was under threat after his side failed to win any of their three games at the tournament and were knocked out in the group stages.
But a statement from the French Football Federation (FFF) confirmed he will lead their World Cup challenge.
"Domenech's record is not that bad as coach. It is not catastrophic," said FFF president Jean-Pierre Escalettes.

Not a surprise at all if you read the french papers, only the 98 generation wanted Deschamps to take over.
RD's been told to work on his communication skills.

He probably bamboozled them with his mysticisms.
Look into my eyes, not around the eyes, not beside my eyes, but into my eyes.

like how not to propose on live TV ???
from ITN
France coach Raymond Domenech proposed to his girlfriend Estelle Denis in a television interview immediately after the defeat by Italy.
She works for the television station M6 and in an interview on the channel, he said: "The only thing I am thinking of now is getting married to Estelle. I am asking her for her hand in marriage."
Domenech may be criticised for the proposal, because it almost certainly came after his last game as France coach.
He is widely expected to lose the job after failing to qualify for the quarter-finals of the European Championships with a squad that reached the 2006 World Cup final.

TBF, I can see a bit of logic in this. Italy and France were too hung up on each other to succeed at this tournament. After the WC Final, the qualifying tussles, etc, this is at least understandable. Both were ripped apart by a Dutch side that, contrary to what many believe, was not a brilliant exponent of attacking football, but rather a hard working and limited side with some truly gifted attackers playing a classic counter-attacking game. 4-1 and 3-0 did not reflect either game (even if the Dutch deserved both). Both teams struggled against a hard-to-beat Romania side. It came down to an all or nothing game between the two, which was decided by Abidal's madness. Who knows what might have happened in that game otherwise? All we can say is that Italy's recent record (outside the penalty win in 2006) against France is poor, they hate playing against them, and find their athletic style hard to cope with.
France have always straddled a line between excellence and failure. Witness their failures to qualify for World Cups in 1990 and 1994; witness their flop at Euro 1992 when a talented side found themselves in a tight group; their failure in 1996, their success in 1998 achieved with a side that didn't play well until the final; Euro 2000, where they were brilliant but ultimately haunted in the last 2 games; 2002, 2004, and their slow march to the last world cup final. This is France for you- I think it goes above and beyond who is in charge.
France fucked up this time, but it could easily have been different. I think it was the underperformance of many key, undroppable players as much as the admittedly poor selections in some instances by Domenech.
Let's face facts too- there were no outstanding candidates in line to replace him. If he does away with the old guard (he tried to do this too soon in the past), there are so many top-quality players being produced in France that a good World Cup is an eminently achievable goal.

there is one OUTSTANDING candidate, but I doubt he'd be interested, not as long as Ar5ena1 remain a top 3 club

He wasnt a candidate of course but he'll get to manage France at some stage alright. Deschamps was the expected replacement for RD.
RD's got a 3 game ultimatum and must get 5 pts out of the possible 9.
Austria away
Serbia at home
Romania away
He's also been asked to play some more attacking football, which shouldnt be too hard to achieve given the pool of players available to him.

I dunno. I can't see AW leaving Arsenal, even when he steps down, I can see him moving upstairs- although admittedly that may give him enough free time for a crack at managing les bleus...

actualy i just read an article about PSG. It really looks like AW would take Paris manager's position in 2-3 years.

Might be his last game tonight.....heard he'll be playing the 3 frenchies from Arsenal's defense vs Serbia in couple of hours....slotting Abidal instead of Mexes....
Last time Abidal touched a football he got sent off and awarded Italy a penalty.

I think the FFF were just too scared to say "we were wrong, he's not the man for the job"
Instead they've imposed a new backroom staff upon him and seem to be imposing lots of conditions on him (someone already mentioned the attacking football)
Thing is, Domenech was justified in a way (albeit a very small way) as these conditions were by in large what went wrong against Austria. Case in point, he was under huge pressure to play Mexes, who didn't exactly cover himself in glory.

Free kick on target for French already. Look very up for it.

At home. I live in France. Have to say they're playing well. Have created loads. The defence have had a few rushes of blood though.

Yeah TF1. Arsène Wenger on the commentary is very good. The other two guys are muppets.
Gourcuff has been exciting alright.

Good win. Conceeded from another dead ball though. Kept the ball well in the last 10 to close it out.
