The Craichouse Comedy Club will celebrate it's fourth Birthday this coming September. Created by Ritchie, Hesh and Tony, the Craichouse has become synonymous with new and upcoming comedians.
Over the past three and a half years we have had to overcome a lot of problems, the biggest which was when we lost our home at the "LV" bar in MacCurtin St when it closed down. Since May 2007 we have been fortunate to have support from Vice and Dave who allow us the use of their upstairs function every Sunday night in the Slainte Bar, Market Lane, Patrick St.
But Cork is moving pretty fast and the Slainte may be gone by October 2008, so the Craichouse need to find a new home.
The ideal venue will have a good location and a seperate function room that can accommodate up to sixty people, or there abouts. The seperate room is so we can charge at the door. The nights would be weekly and on a Friday or Saturday ( this way we can bring down more outside comedians who can still be back to work/college on Monday morning.
Or perhaps one of the night clubs might be willing to offer us space from 9pm till 11pm when they start their own entertainment.
The Craichouse is a very small comedy club, but with a great dedicated management team. We give most comedian their first break in Cork, where other clubs put them on the long long waiting list, we give them the break they need. We have also helped 9 new local comedians get their first ever gig in front of a live audience. Our approach to stand up comedy is different from other clubs which is why were so popular with comedians everywhere.
If the Craichouse goes then there is no spring board for new and local comedians. Most weeks the Craichouse gives me a headache, it gave Tony a constant migraine, but because we know how important the Craichouse is we keep it going. the local comedians are really great with their support, they too know of it's importance.
So if anyone out there knows of a venue, or if some publican or club owner is interested then give me a shout, we will do the leg work, but we need a home, without it the future of Cork comedy is very bleak.
