Just bought my ticket for this a while ago. Looking forward to the game now. I still think Cork should come out on top, even with all the hype about Tipp this year. I just think they're too young a team yet. I can honestly see one last hooray from the older section of the Cork panel. I have a good feeling this year. Here's to hoping I'm right. Outside of Cork I see Galway as being a real contender. Whatever the case I can't see the cats doing it this year!

Hopefully the old guard will give it an almighty bash and Paudie Osullivan can provide a goalscoring outlet.Im dissapointed mike walsh conor odriscoll and Eoin Osullivan are not on the panel as there better corner back options than Shane Murphy.Fintan Oleary had a good league and fitzgibbon cup yet he doesnt make it and Kieran the so called Hero Murphy is still there.Erins Own bias i suppose.Does anyone one think the blaas blew it last year? They certainly wont win the all ireland without a fullback.

I'm looking forward to this-one of the people i'm going with it is a Tipp person living here and i'm looking forward to the banter and the impending victory for the rebels too (fingers crossed)

Cork V Tipp has been traditionally one of the best sporting occassions over the years and this should be no different

:vamp: It was always known as Flower Lodge until a group of small-minded, prohibitionist DICKHEADS got their greasy little fingers on it!

In fairness, if it wasn't for the GAA it would be a housing estate by now

Cork Constitution were very interested in buying "The Lodge" but the A.O.H.
sold Cork soccer out to the "ban everything brigade".
Rugby people have never had the attitude to Football that the G.A.A.H.,
particularly in Cork, had and in some cases still have!

Meh, same difference.

The San Siro was renamed the Giuseppe Meazza 40 years ago, and most people still call it by its old name.

Get over it.

sorry HoChi, its Pairc Ui Rinn now.

I haven't heard it referred to flower lodge by anyone for years and years. And I include soccer people in that.

And Stevie is right, it would be a block of appartments if the GAA hadn't bought it, actually, isn't that what the great would be saviours cork con are doing with their ground?

Can't say I know of anybody who refers to it as anything other than Pairc Uí Rinn to be honest and I can't imagine why anyone would have a conniption about it either.

To be fair, Lamps. It's not as if there's a particular shortage of city GAA clubs that have done much the same and much longer ago. Not that I'm a particular fan of Cork Con BTW

And? It was hardly a private conversation and in any event; in this instance I largely agree with you. Anyone suitably aggrieved by the demise of the "Flower Lodge" moniker should direct their ire at the ineptitude of the FAI and its "stewardship" of association football in Cork, not the GAA.

You're possibly right Stevie but at least it would have been a " Murphy & Honohan Free Zone"!

I agree with you to a certain extent but the cold truth of the matter is that the A.O.H. were the owners of Flower Lodge and sold out to the highest bidder having "milked" various teams ( Cork Hibernians in particular) rent wise over a period of years. In 1990 a friendly between Cork City and Manchester United had to be played at Musgrave Park because "The Lodge" had been sold. In the match programme for that game there was a great article about the "sellout". I used to have it but inexpensive "jewels" tend to get lost over the years through moving and people with greedy eyes.
The F.A.I. never really had money until the aftermath of Italia 90 but instead of investing some of it in youth football in Ireland the "Merrion Square Morons"preferred to go on "junkets" to "important" tournaments like the U.S.A. Cup. Probably to keep Charlton & McCarthy happy.
1972 in Cork we had no access to the BBC or ITV and there was great interest in the L.O.I. Waterford and Cork Hibs were the "topdogs" and Hibs had won the league in 1970/71 after a playoff in Dublin against Shamshite Rovers 3-1.
Fast forward to 1971/72 and the final game of the season - Hibs-v-Waterford at "The Lodge". 10 mins. left and Hibs 2-0 to the good with Waterford down to 10 men. Waterford score 3 in the time remaining to take the title. Official attendance 27,000.
The following Sunday's F.A.I. Cup Final at Dalymount Park went much better!
CORK HIBS 3 - 0 Waterford.

Happy days indeed because at 9 years of age I didn't use to "go on the drink"
after matches! :D :D :D
