What events do you like? Shot put? That's one joke of a "sport". I mean like some feen from Belgrade or Donetsk will dedicate much of his years to throwing a 24kg metal ball from the pit of his neck. There's no point or skill involved, it's just strength. Half of west Kerry could do better but they don't cos even though they are still in the latter stages of evolution they know better.
1. Mascherano
2. Messi
basically only the Argie's.

The Olympics showcases athletes who are at the pinnacle of there sport. Anyone who wins gold in an event is truly the greatest in the world at that event as all athletes plan their training and careers around the Olympics.
As there is such a diverse range of sports in the games there is something for everyone.
For me it’s the highlight of the sporting calendar.

The gold medalists at the world championships must be pissed off at that. But I agree the Olympics has that kind of mystic and history which can be traced back to ancient Greece. And the modern olympic games only started in 1896(correct me if i'm wrong).

The reason so many people associate steroids with the olympics and also with cycling is because they are have the most rigorous testing procedures in place and as a result catch a lot of high profile athletes.
The truth is the vast majority of athletes are clean and dedicate a large portion of their life to their discipline and should be respected for it. Remember innocent until proven guilty.

the wdfpa{world drugfree powerlifting asso.} is not in favour of any of its 5000 or so lifters world wide having anything to do with the olympics, and are taking a vote to council soon.
its riddled, and they recon it would ruin the 15 years they have worked to create a clean comp environ with zero notice testing and so on.
The soccer and boxing is the only thing that interests me, Athletics is a joke and has been for the last 20 years IMO

very true and its a shame, back in 88, the lewis-johnson thing as big as anything in sport.
Coe, Cram and Ovett were as big names as Ian Rush and Kenny Dalglish.
Athletics used to be my favourite and all, now I can't stand it

Apart from the Boxing and Soccer, the rest of it is pretty much too clouded by suspicion to be able to enjoy it...only a few sports are left untainted by the drugs scourge...i mean apart from Archery and the aforementioned, I would view any World record performance as being under suspicion until proven innocent...that's how bad it has become...
Is there any performance enhancer for the human eye...so that I could be the first drug cheat in Olympic Archery history ???
i'm beating 2 dozen carrots down my neck every day at the moment but to no avail....

I once had a jazz watching womens beach volleyball. Pack of tramps the lot of them.
I can't believe the US beat Japan to take the number 3 seeds in a kinda dead rubber baseball.
..the means the US set up a semi-final against Cuba rather than chucking it to play Korea.
Cuba are gonna dance all over them and get another gold, and this time for Fidel
..hasta la victoria siempre and all that

Why do other sports like soccer have as much of a bad reputation as athletics for drugs? There's been plenty of positive drug test down the years not to mention East-Germanesque systematic doping at Juve(and no doubt plenty of other places). I think athletics, swimming and cycling seem to get more publicity for their failed tests.

I'm not saying that doping in soccer isn't a serious issue, just that I'd say doping in a sport like soccer wouldn't necessarily automatically lead to success.

Yeah, up to a point but there is a lot of skill and tactics involved in most of those sports too. I suppose my point is why isn't more made of the failed drugs tests and such in soccer and other sports.
Apart from the Boxing and Soccer, the rest of it is pretty much too clouded by suspicion to be able to enjoy it.
Why are those two considered clean?
If soccer is thrown in because its a team sport more relying on skill than power or endurance, why not the basketball, hockey, handball etc?
did anyone catch a bit of the womens javelin?
..there was a lot of talented competitors..
