...........that people on here can become analytical after games as if they see the gane in person every week.

How many times do you actually go to watch your team a season? When you actually get to see a team play time and time again, you then deserve to analyse players.

So how many games do you ,the members of the sports forum, attend a year of your own club?

There used be something here about every langer having an opinion

That's all it is really don't see the big deal with having to qualify for such opinions but for the record, every Cork City home league game and the odd United game (much more in previous years due to circumstances/finances/work)

I agree that none of us are experts though

It's people calling players rubbish after they've seen them on a tv screen though is what gets me. Having an opinion is quite different from slating players though.

I go to 99% of City home games, a few aways and also a few United games (this season has proven difficult though becuase of the oul Leaving Cert), yet I still don't feel players can be slated.

Yup, it's embarassing alright, one of the reasons why i don't ever watch matches in pubs (and yes, United fans are as bad as any)

Though even down at the match tomorrow there will be plenty of people telling us that Georgie and Mooney are shit and that Gamble should shoot more

But we are from Cork and naturally we are moaners and know-it-alls so it's fair enough:)

Hope the study is going well man are ya doing much writing?

I'm a season ticket holder at Anfield.

Get out of that one, Alan Smith.

BTW, The Alan Smith (a great number 9) at Arsenal was far superior than the Alan Smith at Newcastle.

The latter, showed promise, like all the young Leeds lads in those days, but never fulfilled his potential. He doesn't even really have a definite position either.

8 approx but the only thing the live experience gives you is the work you see a player doing off the ball in my opinion. There's a lot of decision that you scream for during the game that are completely valid when watching them over again on TV. Then again my eyesight isn't what it used to be and the seat I normally have at Celtic Park is quite high in the Stein end.

If you watch Premiership football on TV in a pub or in your home you are directly contributing to the players' wages through the money that SKY gives to football clubs for screening the matches.
Therefore you have every right to say whatever the fuck you want about something you have bought.

Opinion on Ian Woan?:o

One of the best left-sided players domestically in the last 15 years.

How he never earned an England cap, I'll never know.

As for Riordan, I like him. Could score bagfulls in the Championship.

What if you watch Premiership football on Sky in a pub that cheats by using a domestic Sky viewing card?

Taper the critcism by 83%.

For example: lightly castigate Cashley instead of hurling a bar stool at the screen when he brandishes an imaginary yellow.

Opinion on Derek Riordan :?:

Think he's a fine player, wouldn't have him first pick but a guy of his ability shouldn't just have the appearances he's had. 20 goals plus a season speaks volumes in my opinion and he would score a barrowload for a team in the championship. Probably the best finisher at the club and despite his limited appearances has a nice collection of goals scored with both feet. Actually feel very sorry for him, wish the club had allowed him move to Burnley. When Strachan falls out with players, he does it properly. What's more frustrating is seeing the likes of Killen take up a space on the bench. That guy is a grade A donkey. Also, when Celtic played the Scottish Cup recently and the Dons were 1 up at Celtic Park, Strachan threw Riordan on for the last 5 minutes. He hadn't played him in months and it was a complete dig at Riordan putting him on.

How many times do you actually go to watch your team a season? When you actually get to see a team play time and time again, you then deserve to analyse players.I can't really agree with this though I appreciate the fact that seeing a game in person is better than viewing it on telly. TV is an OK medium for analysing if you are concentrating though I agree you'll miss certain things too. I don't like watching games in pubs either cos it's harder to get a proper feel for the game.

What would get me more than those who don't attend games would be people who barely kicked a ball in their lives thinking they know the ins and outs of the game. You get your football brain from playing the game.

To be fair I think most on here know their stuff despite going over the top on occasion.

TBH, I thought you might be scathing in your summary, but I rate him aswell.

Now, I'm no expert in Scottish football, but I used to wonder why Riordan had been so frozen out by Celtic. Didn't realise he had a bust-up with Strachan, but still all disputing/squabbling aside - if you're good enough, you should be in the starting 11/16.

Not a bad finisher, as you say, seen him on tele a few times. Watched him in the flesh once in an Edinburgh Derby, about 3 years ago. Riordan put Hibs in front, Paul Hartley equalised.

Hibs (under Mowbray) were great to watch, at times they even played a somewhat 4-2-4 (Riordan, O'Connor, Killen & Sproule). The latter scored a hat-trick at Ibrox once.

Saw that game against Aberdeen, Riordan had a opportunity at the back post (not even a half chance, in fact, a very slight chance). His confidence must be shattered regardless.

When it come's to my sport i am an expert. I have no idea how many basketball games i would see in a season but easily it would be in 3 figures.

They played some great stuff all right but that started back under Big 'Eck (except for the time when Williamson took over), used to get up there once a season but haven't been up there in about 2 years, The players they have sold (mostly to the Old Firm) over the last 3 years is unreal.....

Ever hear the John Collins story of his first day when he lifted his top? Told the players "This is the kind of conditioning you should be looking to reach"
