Jonny Wilkinson has been dropped from the England team to face Ireland on Saturday and replaced at fly-half by rising star Danny Cipriani.

seriously now, i was listening to Cooper championing his cause last night, saying that ROG has been delivering while BOD, struggling with injuries and so forth hasn't. He said he was a man to handle pressue as witnessed by his Munster displays.

hello?

rogby world cup?

anybody home?

The pressure came on and he visibly wilted before our eyes, he had a breakdown. On the plus side for ROG this is a nothing game and no better man to kick for the corners in that situation.

Pity to see Wilkinson's form dip but he'll be back I am sure.Brave call by Ashton.

Ashton must go.

Ireland may be worth a punt now. I'd be much more fearful of a team with Wilko than that of one wit Cipriani.

On the ROG captain thing, he cant be worse than O'Connell.

That was irelands problem with the last six months or so, O'Sullivan had too much loyalty to some players, fair play to ashton leaving out a player who is playing badly and bringing in some new blood.
Cypriani could bottle but at least he's getting a chance without having to spend years on the bench or in the A-team.

dropping BOD would be a similar call, but the difference is that England have what looks like a capable replacment ireland haven't got those well especially in the pivitol positions. (possibly because they haven't been given the chance).

Like in the World Cup against the Argies ROG was having a complete nightmare and eddie wouldn't even give Paddy Wallace (what ever your thoughts may be on him) a chance at a time when there was nothing to play for

The one good thing about his injury is that we'll finally get a chance to see Andrew Trimble play in his best position. It's a bit of a pity that EOS has gone for the safe option of moving Shane Horgan to Inside Centre. It would have been good to see Paddy Wallace get a run out there. But safety has always been Eddie's way.

Wallace may still get a go at inside centre depending on whether Geordan Murphy gets back to full fitness. He'd then have a choice between Horgan out to the wing with Kearney to full back and Wallace at centre or Fitzgerald onto the wing with Kearney at full back.

But as usual you set up a false opposition.

Fucking hell I'm no rugby expert Eddie but why would EOS want to drop BOD if he's fit? He's still one of the most feared players in the game even today & Ireland are better off with him than without. Still think the fucker should have gone to France 3 years ago.

On the Jonny thing I doubt it that he's weak in the tackle. Read somewhere that he's had to change his technique due to his injuries. Wouldnt think he'd be targeted the way ROG is as a poor tackler.

Ronan definitely deserves a chance at captain of a team that he has contributed more than any other player in its history. He has scored 822points for Ireland in his time on the team, ok, some claim he isn't the best tackler (which is a very arguable point) but you can't fault the contribution he has made to Irish rugby.

In comparison to the above lets see BOD's total points - 167, hmmm...

BTW I never claimed that Sir Jonnie is a straw man just thet ROG & Himself would not be recognised for their tackling - place kicking, tactical kicking kings the 2 of them with a World Cup Medal in Jonnies sideboard drawer whislt ROG has lots of photos of himself with pointless triple crowns and a HEC medal in his locker.

Wilko's tackling nowadays is nowhere near as strong as it was back in the pre world cup 2003 days, but you can hardly blame him for that. Since then whenever he's tried big hits its gotten him in trouble, like against Carter for the Lions in 05. As well as that Dempsey walked through him in Croke Park last year a few times.

If you're judging from a few years ago there wouldnt be any outhalf in the world capable of making a hit like him.

O'Gara didnt do too bad against Chabal though in fairness ;)

Any man is entitled to an opinion, but when that opinion is so far off the mark as to be laughable it's only right to try and set him straight. ROG is a weak tackler, always has been as are most out-halfs to be fair. Wilko is recognized the world over as a hard hitter. Outside of yourself i've never heard anyone say the same about rog.
