Well Alexi told me once before that I was full of shit because I claimed to have seen a West Ham game on TV but the only place it was showing was in some suite or viewing area at Upton Park. Obviously I was imagining the game that was broadcast to everyone in North America on Fox Soccer Channel. (In fairness, I do believe he did admit to being wrong that one time.....or maybe he didn't).
Also, I seem to remember Newcastle showing games at St. James' when their team was away. They'd sell tickets after the away aloocation was sold out I think. -AmadeusDC-

70k or 75k? you keep changing your mind it's hard to keep up. i will take a bet of between 60k and 70k as they have not decided on the exact figure yet, lets make this bet, ohhhh, i dunno, your entire life's savings? not too sure about a time frame though as they are still seeking a suitable location although the word is still, as it was before, the old parcel force depot at west ham station

Perhaps it's going to just be a 70-75 thousand seater movie theatre so their tens of thousands of fans can watch away games at 3pm on Saturday............ more fans than United :D ........ Shefield United perhaps........... PERHAPS!!!

Alexi says:

So the simple conclusion based on the quote above and the context is that Liam thinks West Ham could sell out Upton Park twice over for almost every home game!

Now clearly I am arguing that West Ham could not sell 71,296+ tickets consistently for home games…… I’m not arguing about anything else.
Still keen to prove my United attendance stat I provide 3 more links.

So Liam is now stating that West Ham are going to move to a stadium of more than 71,296
I want to confirm what we are arguing about cause Liam has a habit of changing the point mid debate so I write the facts as they are:

And when is this move to a new stadium taking place? I want you to show me the plans they have for this 70,000+ seater stadium. And no, not a 45,000 seater or even a 50,000 seater. You said double and trust me the way football is these days they'd build it if the demand was there.
That leaves it pretty clear what I am arguing I guess.
Liam immediately after

So he is still saying the demand is there for a 71,000+ capacity stadium. That is “exactly” what we are arguing, nothing more and nothing less regarding West Ham’s new ground.
Again wanting to make sure we are still on the same page I say

Now he is fucked! He is clearly now aware of exactly what I am saying. See what is written in BOLD Liam? That was last Thursday. I never said that they wouldn’t build a new stadium (in fact I said the opposite) which has been the smokescreen you have tried to use since then.
The 3rd part in Bold is where I fucking owned you and where your argument and subsequent attempts to weasel out fall apart. You keep asking me where I said they wouldn't move to a bigger stadium. I never said they wouldn't, in fact I said I wouldn't be surprised if they did, but we were arguing that it would be twice the size of Upton Park e.g. 71,000+. It won't be, and nothing you have ever posted here or produced since has suggested it would be. Consider yourself pawned yet again. It's not even fun when it's this easy.

the exact figure hasn't been agreed upon yet, they are still looking for a site, at the time of that thread they were talking about using the 85,000 seater olympic stadium after 15,000 seats were removed. since then they have said between 60k and 70k, because instead of buying the stadium they will now have to build it from scratch.
will you be man enough to hold your hand up and say you were wrong if they do move to a 70k stadium?

Absolutely!!! (btw renting Wembley or Twickenham don't count).
In any case, it'd be disastrous for West Ham to move to a ground that size because it would be half empty for a lot of their games. A small but packed Upton Park will always be a much more intimidating place to play that some giant bowl wth fans congregated in certain areas only.
Also, will you be man enough to hold your hand up and say you were wrong if (and I believe when) they announce they are planning to build a stadium of less than 70,606 (double Upton Park based on Wiki figures)?

Wow, not an insult in sight, amazing what a victory (over Naff) will do to a guy. Considering you're finally behaving normally and not being overly defensive for once let me ask you this, do you really think that moving to a 60,000-70,000 seater stadium would be good for West Ham?
Personally, I can't see how the demand is there when Upton Park (apparently) isn't a guarenteed sell out every week. I'd have thought somewhere between 45 and 55(maximum) would be ideal. In that situation they'd have a decent shot at filling it once in a while, especially if the performances on the field picked up. I just can't see how they would ever fill a stadium for games against the likes of Wigan, Derby or even Blackburn. A half empty stadium doesn't suit anyone and these tend to quickly expose the link between supply and demand.

yes i do, we had to put a cap on our season tickets this season because the stadium was too small, we could have sold 10-15k more i'm told by my mate in the ticket office. if by the time the stadium is planned and built etc. i would hope curbishley would have been booted and we would have been in europe (we we're only 7 points off with a game in hand) so that would easily account for the extra's needed to fill to capacity. thats the optimistic POV, on the flip side, we have the best defensive record in the prem outside of the top 4, our main problem is getting goals because all our pace is injured, if we had that back we could have been that bit higher and attacking UEFA cup spots even sooner, but until we get to move and can invest more money in the team from extra tickets sales then we can't make that push.
not only can we fill a big stadium, but we need it.

In fairness you guys are not exactly where you are this season on a shoestring. In fact outside of Tottenham, Newcastle and Man City (possibly) and the Big 4 obviously I'd say you guys have spent more than any other team. You should be in for a UEFA spot with that sort of investment. More money wouldn't be a hinderance but it shouldn't be needed to consistently push for a UEFA spot. I feel you may be right on Curbishly. He'll keep them consistently average in the Premiership and where as that was living the dream for a club like Charlton, these days West Ham fans will expect more.

i don't like curbishley 1 bit, but he has had rotten luck with injuries; faubert, dyer, bellamy, solano, freddy, ethrington, zamora, ashton, ferdinand, bowyer, all out for long periods at some stage this season, they are all our pacey players and thats stopped us from scoring. our defence is the best in the PL outside the top 4, we're lucky to have the best keeper in the prem at the minute.
if we hadn't been so unlucky with injuries we might have had another 8 or 9 points and that would have us in 6th with a game in hand.
with a better manager less injuries we could achieve it, the players we have that i expected to be duds have done well when they've played (bellamy, dyer, freddy and camara) + ethrington, bowyer and pantsil have found a new lease of life.
we have the players for a UEFA cup spot just not the luck, and i would argue the manager

Ya, in fairness there's a lot of big names crocked there and the modern premier league is all about pace. Then again you should be almost expecting a UEFA spot most seasons after spending that sort of cash. It's still a huge jump from there to a C/L spot too. Even contending would be a massive leap and I can't see the stadium being of much use without the top quality football to fill it. Newcastle are the prime example of money not being a guarentee of European football. -AmadeusDC-

to be fair, look at where we were 12 months ago! it's a huge leap to be where we are now as it is. i don't think UC is that much of a leap, just needs a better manager who is more positive and not happy to settle. CL isn't as elusive as it use to be, man utd and arsenal may be running away with things but the next 2 places are getting much more within reach for the chasing pack
newcastle are a paradox, they have good support, a huge stadium, plenty of money, yet they can never achieve their potential, i thought big sam might be the answer to that but he's proving a flop, they have to be the prem's biggest underachievers

Very harsh this early as discussed in another thread. Newcastle are off to about the same sort of start as West Ham and only for a dredful run in the last 4 games they're almost where Blackburn are and we've apparently got off to a flyer. Newcastle will be fine when it becomes Big Sam's team. Right now it's still a squad of players but nothing like a cohesive unit. Chelsea pre Mourinho and after he arrived is a decent example of that sort of difference.
