Then why would there be an Irish rugby league team like there is

k974

similar to the british and irish lions in union which used to be commonly called the british lions, i'd imagne because only a few irish have ever played for the rugby league team there hasnt been an issue with the name anthem etc

Make that officially

As regards the Great Britain rugby league team that Carney played for, they stand to God Save the Queen and the Union jack AND Ireland is not part of the name. Thats as British as you'll get. Carney took the soup big time. Case closed

No its not.

They offically dropped the name Ireland (opposite to the union team in fact who added it). The crest remains alright.

Entirley true. With a fine English name and ,obviously, no inclination to ever fight for the cause of Irish freedom, Carson might have declared for Kilkenny, he'd have fitted in there.

lads there's unreal double standards going on here regarding mcilroy. if sonia or bernard dunne or someone south chose to represent britain there would be absolute outrage and rightly so. doesn't seem to bother people when mcilroy does it. why? cause northern ireland isn't ireland, it's britain. yet when we are claiming him, we say he's as irish as anyone else, cause he's part of the island of ireland.

In fairness the thread is about west Brits...........now depending on your definition of west Brit, to me it's Irish people having more regard for Britain than Ireland. Without getting into it again McIlroy is Irish but carries a British passport as is his right as a Unionist, Carney and Morgan totally different story.

Bit like Brian Hayes, Gay Mitchell, you know the type.......... ;)

Eoin Morgan is a tremendous batsman and is just doing the done thing in Cricket. If your country is not of Test status and you want to excel at the highest level of the game, you go to the nearest neighbour or Test nation to bring it onto the next level. If Ireland ever do get test status (unlikely), then such a character as Morgan could be classified as a West Brit. For now, he's a world class short format batman looking to become a world class test batsman. Sin sin a bhuachaillí! ;)

Rugby is only "English" to the likes of you because chippy knackers have a grudge against those who play/follow it the same way as they have a grudge against those with a higher education or a full set of teeth . And I am not surprised at the stunning irony in you not knowing where soccerball comes from since you (despite being corrected several times) still believe that N.Ireland is part of Britain.

Good to see that you recognise that you tick at least half of the boxes you have listed there, lozzie. And there are no semantics about it, N. Ireland is about as much a part of Britain as New Guinea is, using Joe Soap on the street's 'definition' doesn't hide your abject ignorance.
