Just interviewed him there for the UCC rag, have to say, as genuinely sound and helpful a bloke as you could ever hope to meet.
Has anyone else got any examples of football players not being complete cunts?

I know very little about Cork City or its players but if you play with them and have a big ego you must be some prick

I haven't met Hoggy myself but i've only heard good things about him and how much of a gentleman he is. I've met a few City players past and present and they were all sound out. After one european game myself and the buddies had a few pints with Joe Gamble and a friend of his. There was no bullshit about him, we had a chat about the game that not and other things.
Another player who was sound out is Danny Murphy, i've had the pleasure of speaking to him on a few occasions and he's always been sound.
I've spoken with other City players as well past and present and they've all been sound.
I met Gary McCallister a few years ago in England and he was sound as well, he stopped to talk with me and my Dad for a few minutes and also posed for pictures, i've met Jamie Redknapp too who was also sound.
I could go on but i couldn't be arsed. Of all the famous sporting people i've met i haven't come across any dickheads. The only one was when i met Roy Evans in waterford years ago. It wasn't Roy himself but a fella with him. I was about 9 or 10 at the time and i was going over to him for an autograph but the dickhead with him said no, Roy saw this and called me over had a quick chat with me and signed the autograph no bother. That's the only bad thing that happened and even then it wasn't the ''famous sports star'' being a dickhead.

I knew Neal when he was a kid but havn't talked to him in years
Sorry to hear his old man passed lately as he used coach me in footy:(
Met many of the Cork GAA brigade on numerous occasions though the years
JBM (don't tell you know who)
Dinny Allen
Ronan Curran (my sister-in-laws Cuz, though i didn't know at the time!)
all sound
Most of the local soccer players are dead on too, Alan Bennet in particular being a really nice guy
To be fair, in Cork, it shouldn't be any other way
The one-or-two times it isn't, is gonna be well documented

Only ever met Hoggy through playing 6-a-side with him once or twice. He went to UCC with a buddy of mine and they played on the Irish universities' soccer team together at the world student games about 6 or 7 years ago. He seems a very sound fella, definitely without a big ego.

Was in the same class as Neal in CSN. Nice guy.
The oddest thing was when he appeared in Championship Manager a few years back.

Hoggy is one of the nicest fellas you'd ever meet. Crying shame he's missing the cup final.
Graham Canty is sound too.
Tis rare you'd meet a complete Pillock though

Are you writing for the Express or something? I'll have a read off that when it comes out next week and see what kind of writer you are!

I enjoyed the piece anyway there was a good flow to it. Fair play.
Neal must be one of the most qualified footballers in the world, he has Blackhalls done and all, must be fairly intelligent as well as a talented ball player!

Thanks, but it's all down to him really. Guy has a lot of sense to talk on a lot of matters. Could easily have filled a second page with it.
Yeah Neal will have no problems in the world when his footballing days draw to a close, and he's dead right- tie in the academic side of things with EL, and you've got a superb (superior even, I would say) alternative to lads going off to England at 16 and 17.
