Typical, Robert Brosnan the St. Nicks footballer was sacked by Waterford Utd for playing with Nicks on Saturday night. Waterford have a relegation battle tonight. Now I know they pay him a few euro a week but it seems to me to be an anti GAA move. If the roles were reversed there would be some outcry from certain sections of the media. Its not Robert Brosnans full time job so how can they get him to commit to a contract. I know of a number of other young fellas playing rugby with Munster development squads have been barred from playing GAA. They were citing the fact that they have so much invested financially. Bullshit I say what about all the hours those in the GAA put in.

I'd say he knew the score before he ever signed a contract. Anyway, being a Guard, he'll probably exact revenge by arresting his former teammates on grounds of misrepresentation by claiming to play football !

Did he signed a contract saying he wouldn't play GAA? If he did, he shouldn't be playing GAA, I don't see your point?

Well i reckon it's nothing against GAA,it's more like they don't want to have their who they pay some bit of money weekly,to keep fit and injury free and not disrupt their season prospects unless it hapened in their due care...

Its not as if he is getting €120,000 a week and playing in the premiership in front of full houses of 70,000 spectators. its only the eircom league

If he's not a full-time soccer player then fair play to him I say.

I see you have a level beyond which turning out for other clubs is not the done thing. So all we are left to argue over is that level. You say £120,000 a week, I say mearly playing for a professional team. Hardly a major discussion point. End of thread.
It must be nice for the the St. Nicks regulars to know that some guy who plays a different sport can just waltz into their team when he isn't busy.

Whether Waterford pay him €100 or €500 p/w, he is still under contract with them and it is not unreasonable for them to expect him not to risk getting injured playing another contact sport.
They are 100% in the right. I wonder if he pulled a hamstring playing for St Nicks that left him out for 3-4 weeks would he be kind enough to stop taking his wages from Waterford??

In your opinion its only the eircom league but others would say its only some cork county gaelic thing.

Waterford United and Gareth Cronin were 100% in the right to cancel his contract. He was told by Cronin no to play in the game and that if he did his contract would be cancelled, he played in the gaa match so he was let go. It doesn't matter what he was getting paid a week or what league he was playing in, he entered in to a contract with Waterford so they must come first.

Dead right. This is the ultimate no-brainer. Why do we even need a thread on this?!?
