Was at yesterdays hurling final and the best team won a bad game. Well done Erins Own. What about the speech Kieran Hero Murphy made. He just proved how immature he is with his speech when he had to put the word "Fucking" into it. I know twas directed at the media but if you are going to do it from the stand in the Pairc in front of small kids don't use gutter language. And before ye go on that we all use those type of words everyday I know we do. I am as guilty as anyone. But he is Cork captain and small kids could well be influenced by his words (they definitely wouldn't be influenced by his play). Next time Kieran be more humble in victory the wheel always turns and if you wind up the media they will have a field day with you the next time you fall down.

Going on people I know who've come across him, the views are remarkably consistent.

Consistently bad ??

You know, there are fellas that, say, are friends with the brother that I think are complete arseholes. I have a low tolerance for such "characters" but, yerra, they'll make excuses and say they've redeeming features.

You'll almost always get at least one person who has something good to say about any chap.

It's remarkable.

Like Hitler. ;)

Even Hitler had his defenders, Joseph Goebbels had loads of nice things to say about the chap

Is it true that he pulled a hurley across Jerry O'Connor while Jerry was struggling with his injury?

Is it true that he pulled a hurley across Jerry O'Connor while Jerry was struggling with his injury?

not exactly. Hero was marking Jerry, Jerry had pulled up with the injury a few minutes earlier and had signalled to the line he was fcuked. He was limping back into position around midfield and hero was doing likewise. Hero then shoulder charged Jerry who then swung and missed at hero as he fell backwards. The thing about yesterday was the place was so quiet during the senior game you could hear all the mouthing that was going on, and Hero has a filthy gob on him.

He has a filthy mouth to everyone. His father ( although he's terrible as well ),eoghan murphy, the ref and especially to the rest of the Erins Own lads I don't know how they play and put up with it. Brian "The Legend" Corcoran would never stoop to that level. Also felt sorry for Jerry O'C and Ben when they didn't perform Newtown had little else apart from Pat Mul. Coakley from Erins Own didn't look bad but again he's very small.

Here's a quote from Hero in last fridays examiner:

“They probably are slight favourites, you could say they’ve had an easy enough passage to the final and they haven’t looked like losing too many games along the way. I suppose if you were to give out favourite tags you’d give it to them. We’re not really thinking about that.”

Mockery!

the rebel gaa thread on the match decided to quote a few of hero's words. seriously, what is it with him. after the year he's had you'd think he'd want to improve his image, not re-inforce what people already think.

he'd have to have brains first. Seriously, he's a fine hurler but has an awful attitude problem.

I couldn't care less what he's like as long as brings the All-Ireland home.

He shouldn't get near a Cork team for a few years until he grows up and learns to swing the hurley a bit quicker. Did n't like what i saw of him on Sunday charging at Jerry O'Connor and then mouthing off all the time.

wheres is all this hatred for Murphy coming from?

It isn't hatred. The guy is a good hurler and he's excellent for Erins Own. However he does things that show him up to be a bit clueless at times like swearing in his acceptance speech and using it as a form of answering critics rather than basking in victory.

Add that to the simple fact he isn't good enough to be on the Cork team never mind being made captain for the year and theres a certain amount of abuse thrown in his direction.

The selection process of been cork captain has been around for donkeys years so its not really the guys fault, however i do think he is to young and inexperienced for the role.

In relation to his hurling skills the same could be be said about Timmy McCarthy's or even Mark Foley's years ago but they have been selected for a reason.

As what i said earlier, i really don't give a shit what Murphy and co. get up to on and off the pitch as along as they bring home some silverware.

We'll forget about the captain thing.

Timmy Mc has been 10 times the hurler for Cork than Hero will ever be. Look at the times he's dragged Cork from the brink of defeat. '99 AI final, in Killarney against Tipp, Waterford semi last year. Also he stops his marker from delivering clean ball into the forwards. This is his main strength. In comparison Hero is supposed to be a fella to get you scores and be a creative influence. At intercounty level he isnt up to it. For evidence see his brutal wide against Waterford in Thurles this year. Unmarked on the 45m line.

Mark Foley was a target man. Alan Browne was of similar vein. Hero isnt and would probably admit that himself. (i hope)

As for what he gets up to on the pitch, I do give a shit. I dont want any fella representing Cork to be a filthy sportsman like the way Galvin is for the Kerry footballers. Brian Corcoran, Joe Deane, Ben O'Connor, Sean Og & Tom Kenny are just 5 fellas who've won AI's in recent years who are class sportsmen. They're the type of guys I want playing for my county, fellas who achieved everything through skill & hard work while respecting their opponants.
