What ? Mediocre teams that grind out results ? That would be the one that comes to mind first.

One of a number of similarities.

Both lost by a late penalty to an evil 20th century villian in ze final?

Both were defending champions.

Both knocked out the hosts in the semi-finals.

Both won their quarters on penaties after scoring no goals/tries.

Both relied on great number 10 with fat arses. who had won the previous single-handed.

Both were shit in their groups, ..Argentina getting a best 3rd place spot.

Both only scored one goal/try from play in the knockout stages.

..any more?

I wouldn't call the Argies villans. The Falklands was the Brits fault.

Well my history books showed that it was a collection of Argentinian
" scrap metal dealers " who landed on South Georgia that triggered the whole Falklands War.
These had been hired by the Argentinian military junta headed by General Galtieri as a tactic to divert attention from the country's worsening economic situation and the fact that thousands of opposition supporters had simply " disappeared. "
Galtieri underestimated the British response and the rest,as they say ,is history.

..any more?I think you've pretty much covered it there xvis although your last statement isn't quite correct. Gold star for you! The similarities struck me last night after I got a text from a bewildered friend who's a rugby fan and couldn't figure out why England were still in this tournament.
