Just saw Ian Paisley sending a good luck message to Eddie O' Sullivan on Setanta.
There is NO WAY I can support the same team as him.

I met Big Ian at the all-ireland, he said that Cork was the worst team to play in a final in years and the Murphy's in Jury's was cat ! He went out to the jacks while they were playing the national anthem.

You let Ian Paisley decide who you can or cannot "support"?
You don't support teams you actually like or have an affinity for?

He has as much right to send a message of support as anyone if he wants, now that he, Gerry, Martin and co are tolerating each other for the sake of peace up there...

That doesn't equate to actually giving a toss if we win or not...don't think the Rev is a rugby fan as I seem to recall he has little interest in sport at all...but I may be wrong.

It's common practice anyway for local politicians, and those of neighbouring countries to send good luck messages on major sporting occasions to each other...Bertie did so at the last WC to the British PM regarding England's chances...did he REALLY mean it...probably not, but he could hardly say "I hope ye get the fukkin heads bate off ye youse English C**ts" now could he ?

Of course he could , and he'd have got fianna fail an overall majority in the election if he did.

Paisley's a bigot. Anything he's pro, the world should be against if you ask me.

we should all be supporting Arland who won't fly our flag or sing our anthem

What ??? So you would'nt support your own team because someone of a different political persuasion sends a 'good luck' message...

FFS...let fukkin Paisley say what he wants...it doesn't affect me in any way...and I don't think O'Connell or Leamy and the boys will be thinking of his 'messages of support' when they take to the field tonight...

of course they will. bod will be using it as inspiration that the cross border thing is working. and if it IS working, well, my god, if that doesn't bring a tear to the eye, i dunno what would.

Paisley must be over the moon, an "Irish" team on show and not a hint of an anthem or tricolour. Getting GSTQ blasted out in Croker, and having thousands of apes in green "irish" jerseys sining about the Queen.

Unreal. How could anyone support this lot.

Ireland will get my backing on Friday night against the French. Then again, without an Irish flag or anthem in place, it's hardly the Ireland any of us belongs to.

In trying to move forward RY, they've bent a small bit too far over backwards.

The fact that they are representing us should be enough to gain our support....the flag issue only arises on foreign fields, not here in the Republic, that should be pointed out...we can't force the Brits, French or anyone else to raise our tricolour over there but that fact alone should make us even more determined to give our support ...an us against them mentality...as I've said many many many many times before , the northern players accept it by the very fact that they pull on the Irish jersey and that's always been the case...but to keep the peace with Ulster, the IRFU adopt that shite song and crap flag to appease everyone else...sure, we don't like it, but that's not the team's fault...

fuck them i say. throw them out. there shouldn't be any need to 'keep the peace'. if they're irish they should be prepared to sing amhran na bhfiann and stand to the tricolour.

If you were eligible to play for England, and they changed the English national anthem to suit you, would you play for them?

I think when he defied death a few years ago he said " Yerra, f**** it, I might as well enjoy the time I have left ". He said to me one time that he'd love to spend one night in Temple Bar but said he would be easily identified, even without his collar. He had good crack one night in Killarney alright with a group of elderly yanks who didn't recognise him.

I sing it at GAA matches....and any international it is played at ...including home rugby internationals.

Just don't sing Ireland's Call...it's not about the song FFS, it's about the sport us real fans and players love...

...any real sports fan would appreciate that... politics doesn't interest me much, neither does religion...if a Dublin born islamic fundamentalist is a great rugby player and pulls on that green shirt, I'll support him for that 80 mins on the pitch...it's about the sport lads, not anything else... :)

Its a 32 county team. In the north it is almost exclusively a sport of the unionists. It should be no surprise that Paisely wishes them well.
When Ulster won the ERC both Trimble and Adams were in attendance cheering them on.

Much as I dislike Paisley, we have plenty of narrow minded bigots on the PROC too it seems.
