This is the new flag they'll march behind apparently. The colours & symbols will change according to who is sponsoring the side most heavily. A flag any nation can be proud of. The colour green will remain though to remind them of where they came from and where they don't want to go back to.

This is political correctness gone mad. Why don't they replace the Tricolour at our games with the Union jack and be done with it.

If the internet cannot find him a successful "match" soon we will all have to suffer on.

Wanted SWF (For now at least) for POL for relationship.Easygoi ng and likes anything type of guy.Must love Oireland and everything Irish. No passport would be a bonus.Looks not important but rampant xenophobia, lumpen nationalism and willingness to live in the year 1954 essential.Ideally oppressed and desperate wimmin only need apply.I am not a bit sports nut.
Photo not essential and no time wasters please.

Easiest way around this is stick a tricolour on one side and the ulster banner on the other.

And we'll call the team the Island of Ireland

Its only fair on the planters, they've been here over 500 years, they've as much right to the place as us.

HOw about using the old flag of the island of ireland, used by protestants and catholics alike in 1798, the United Irishmen.

The Irish rugby team seems to be the only one at the World Cup that doesn't actually represent a country, especially since we revised Articles 2 & 3.

Makes picking an anthem kinda difficult. Pity it can't be Amhrán na bhFiann, even if it is a godawful song.

Easiest way is to use the IRFU flag and say we play as reps for the aforementioned.

It should also be translated into both Irish and Ulster-Scots.

Just to have it in English doesn't reflect the diversity of peoples on this island.

Anyone else notice a disturbing number of jocks getting angry with The prods (not my words) cos things aren't going right. If the comman garden jock is like this can you imagine what top level jocks like BOD and ROG are like, they must be spitting venom at Trimble and the other unionists. As I said, its been 500 years since they landed and took the land of Cuchulainn and Conor Mac Neasa cos they felt like it. Get over it. Just who do the Southern jocks think they are demanding amhrain na bhfiann

Until recently, they were using the four provinces flag, which as its name suggests was a mix of the flags of Munster, Leinster, Connacht and Ulster.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/6/65/Four_Provinces_Flag. svg/250px-Four_Provinces_Flag. svg.png

Everyone was happy and then they changed it. I'm not sure why. Maybe they thought Connacht had no place on a flag that was going to be used for rugby ;-)

Rugby fans selling their souls

Wednesday, September 19, 2007

It is typical of Ulster rugby supporters such as S G E Bailey (Write Back, September 12) to sell their souls to be more acceptable as Irish than the Irish.

He states that Northern Ireland rugby fans should get behind Ireland in the World Cup. For what?

What do we have in common with the Ireland rugby team?

We are connected by a lump of earth, similar to hundreds of countries in the world.

What else is there in common?

If S G E Bailey is as big an Ulster rugby fan as he says, he should be supporting the team that also carries the St George's flag, as Ulster does, and support England.

Stop being hoodwinked into thinking that Irish rugby does anything for the true rugby supporters of Ulster. They are Irish and always will be.

Real Ulster Fan, Belfast

On the subject of the flag, maybe I missed something here but when did that fucking thing become the flag the Irish team play under?
And is this going to be our flag from now on? And is that Ireland's Call shit going to be played at every Irish game now instead of Amhrán na bhFiann?
On the subject of the match, I wish them no luck at all from now on because they are no longer an Irish team as far as I'm concerned.

A pure cop out if you ask me.

If they had won their three games hands down everyone would be jumping up and down like lunatics and the anthem and the flag wouldn't even be considered as an issue.

I don't see why people should say they're not Irish because of board room decisions that have absolutely nothing to do with the players. Complete shit.
