Fans make “black shirt” protest plea
September 17, 2007
Irish football fans have been urged to wear black for the next Euro 2008 qualifier against Germany at Croke Park as a means of voicing their dissatisfaction with the management team and the FAI.
The Republic of Ireland’s hopes of reaching next summer’s finals in Austria and Switzerland are effectively over with three games to go following last week’s defeat in the Czech Republic.
The FAI has stated its commitment to manager Steve Staunton but many fans remain unconvinced by the Louth man’s capacity to deliver the improvement necessary to make the boys in green competitive in the next World Cup qualification campaign.
Eighty per cent of voters on the latest eleven-a-side.com poll believe Stan should be sacked for his side’s Euro failure – and supporters posting messages on some internet forums have suggested wearing black to the game against Germany next month.
Have you ever heard such shite inyour life? If you dont like it, dont go!

A lot of Irish soccer fans are fucking muppets of the highest order, and many of them routinely boo their own players at home games, including the one or two top class players we have had
I agree with their sentiments about Delaney but you are right, they should not go

What we need is an FC Ireland thing to get going. We could play our games in the Phoneix Park and everything
I'd be willing to lead it but I'm busy. Who's with me?

Stan can't be blamied he is in way over his head here, it's the muppet Delaney that should go. As for booing yer own players, that is just stupid, why pay the money to go and see a game only to boo a player, that won't help anyone. The black shirt idea sounds not to bad to be honest.

In fairness, they were right to boo Keane at the time, he was skipping games.
But thats for another day, the rugger is in full swing

The thing I like about the black shirt idea, is that people can still go and get behind the team, but still show their disgust at the set-up.
Delaney has to blame the bulk of the blame. Stan can't be expected to do something he quite simply isn't capable off. He should however to man enough to admit he's out of his depth

all the tickets for the germany were sold months ago before the last two games and you had to buy a ticket for the cyprus game to recieve your germany ticket.
so the fai have thier money in the bank already.
the fai have never taken any notice of supporters so i dont think they will be to bothered about any form of protest.

correct, they have never taken any notice of supporters, but on the other hand has there ever been such a collective sense of outrage at the Merrion square idiots before?? ( they never got any real flak over saipan) and has there ever been a protest worth noticing??

Irish soccer is having a rough time with the rogger and GAA. Might be time to thrown in the towel and let Dave Barry or Pat Morley have a go at it. They could play a bit.

I think football should be clinical and fans should not express their opinion anywhere, at any time. They should all wear green jerseys and sit like deck chairs and not make a sound until they are signaled to do so.

How dare fans have an independent thought of their own. How dare they show their discontent and to make it worse they even sport black jerseys while doing so. They should have no emotional connection with the game they love whatsoever and have no right to expect a bit of civic pride from all involved in the game, especially the powers that be in the FAI.
Its this exact kind of mentality that should have them all labeled as filthy durty rebels .... rebels i said, and rowdy ones at that. If they cant just sit and golf clap during the game they have no place being there. There will be bar stools all over the country vacant on the day and they should be made sit on them.
