a day for bold statements, after two 5th place finishes in a row. this has to be the year Spurs finally break into the top four.

if any team is gonna do it, its spurs. along with berbatov, lennon and king would get into liverpool or arsenal side if fit. chimbonda, bale and bent would be challenging. they have englands no. 1 although i don't rate him and they have keane, jenas and defoe too. not a bad team if king and lennon are fit. lacking bite in the midfield, but they certainly have the players to challenge the top 4, when you think of what everton did a few years back and what the likes of bolton and ipswich have threatened to do in recent years

That was at White Hart Lane, where the games are generally close and where Spurs have often taken points from the reds
Just one of those games really
as dan said spurs had a legitimate win cancelled out due to a crap linesman a few years ago
It happened United last year against Portsmouth i think and also last weekend for Fulham, yet still goal-line technology isn't used

The 2-2 where Campell got two at White Hart lane is another that i remember could have been costly at the time
It should also be remembered that Spurs were winning for most of the first half in the final game of the league season where United won the Treble
A draw and it would have been a totally different story but ultimately, i doubt Sours were too upset that Arsenal lost their title that day

Contrary to media reports Ledley King has not suffered a setback following knee surgery in the summer.
The skipper is making good progress in his recovery and medical staff are satisfied with his rehabilitation so far.
"Ledley has suffered no setback, he has no pain or swelling in his knee and is building up his fitness," commented Wayne Diesel, Head of Medical Services at the Club. "I am satisfied that he is on course with his rehab and is making steady progress. We have always said that we would not look to rush him back as that would be counter-productive, so this will not be dictated by timeframes but by goal-specific stages in his rehab."
Ledley, reacting to unhelpful, inaccurate speculation said: "Far from suffering any setback, I am in fact really pleased with the way things are going. No player enjoys watching from the sidelines and my sole focus is on getting fit and back in the squad."

1-3 at half time against Villa. The two reasons why Spurs are in this position in this game are:
1. The inclusion of Robinson (Jol's fault entirely, Radek Cerny must be wondering what he has to do to get a run out in a league game after Robinson's display against Arsenal. Cerny is a totally competent keeper, there is no reason to hold him back whatsoever.)
2. This youth transfer policy is totally backfiring. Dawson, Kaboul and Bale are very young and need guidance on the field. Kaboul missed the first header for the third goal leaving Dawson exposed one on one with a quick footed striker. Bale and the other covering player were very slow to react too. Chimbonda was totally at fault for the second goal. Barry was in miles of space in his area of the pitch.
Now I think what's really needed is some clarity over exactly who decides what in terms of the transfer policy. It's all very well to buy up "the best young talent" but how the fuck can you expect to talk about top ten let alone fourth place when you've got nothing but raw kids at the back. If it's totally down to Commoli then it's grossly unfair to expect Jol to get these kids playing with maturity straight away. It's a ridiculous situation really when there is no public clarity about the clubs policies and it makes it very easy for the board to make a scapegoat of Jol which is what I think will happen if Villa win this.

Well, that was hilarious in the end. Spurs played with a 2-2-6 formation at one stage!!! Harewood fucked it up for Villa big time in giving away the most brainless spotter I've seen in ages. Fair play to Spurs for clawing it back but there are still some very serious problems. I'm happy that they salvaged something there though cos I have a feeling things would have gotten very ugly if it had ended 4-1 or 4-2. Maybe Jol will realise that he got away with picking Robinson and such an inexperienced back 4 there and decide against it in future. I think it's time for Cerny in goal, Rocha at the back if only for his experience and Bale to be pushed forward on the left side of midfield again.

Ledley King is the key here. an experienced head at the back to guide the others, and I think Cerny has to be given his chance. Robbo has made too many mistakes too often. he cost spurs the game last night.
Happy for Martin jol, it was a miracle comeback. He is been used as a scapegoat for problems outside his control.
Spurs still can't defend from set pieces, which is a f*cking joke by the way.
P.S. I think Stevie is right about Chelski, they are the only 'BIG 4' club that Spurs could conceivably catch.
Next game against Liverpool, might be a big test or might be a handy point. it all depends on what kind of team Rafa picks

There is a major mental problem in my opinion and sooner or later Spurs, who have had some really bad luck against the so called big 4, are gonna have to start beating one or two of them (the goal that never was didn't help at Old Trafford a few years ago, that could have been the breakthrough)
This Saturday would be a good place to start, but in trurth, a draw would be a good result at Anfield

They did beat Chelski last season, but that was at three point lane. and they should have beaten them at the bridge in the cup
Agreed that a draw might be the best they can hope for at Anfield, but as i said, even that will depend on what sort of side Rafa puts out

ANFIELD AGONY
Martin Jol felt we deserved to win at Liverpool after being denied by Fernando Torres' header in injury time on Sunday.
Robbie Keane's double strike - indentical goals from Paul Robinson clearances and Dimitar Berbatov flicks - either side of the break cancelled out Andriy Voronin's early goal and looked set to take us to our first league win at Anfield since 1993.
But the curse of the late goal on our travels struck again as Steve Finnan's cross was met by a towering header by Torres at the far post to level it. The board had already gone up for three minutes added time.
It's the third time this season we've been denied points on the road by late, late goals - at Sunderland (0-1), Fulham (3-3) and now Anfield.
"Everyone has said we deserved to win, and that is how we feel," reflected Martin.
"In the second half we were on top and caused a lot of problems. That was good. They had suffered a bad defeat against Marseille in midweek and we knew they would want to do better and we expected a difficult match.
"We then conceded a goal like that at the beginning, which didn't help. After that and the shot from Gerrard that hit the post (a free-kick after 28 minutes) I felt we did well to come back into the game.
"In the second half we were better, winning the ball in midfield, breaking quick and we scored a good goal with Robbie Keane again and we thought it could be a great win.
"We've got a great spirit, everyone can see that. We've travelled a lot and then had to go to Liverpool but hopefully we'll take a lot of confidence out of this match."
Meanwhile, Martin revealed that Darren Bent was sent home from Liverpool after picking up a virus.

Robbo must be dropped.
They should sign Shay Given in January.

Shay Given, spurs would need more than the top class goalkeeper of newc astle to get out of the mess they are in! anyway do you really think that newcastle would let Shay Given go, i doubt it highly. what spurs need to do is sort out their strikers, you cannot have 4 top class strikers to pick from it simply doesnt work as there is too many changes week in and week out for a player to get a proper string of form going, like its not really working for liverpool [although they have got an unbeaten record], too much inconsistancy does not equal goals! On the other hand, the mighty ARSENAL have got the striker situation sewn up, Van Persie and Adebayor brilliant combination and we have Eduardo and Bendtner for backup when Adebayor goes to the african cup of nations, so really although its early doors with spurs form they dont have a chance of making it this year!

what spurs need to do is sort out their strikersDaft. They've had 4 strikers since Jol took over and it hasn't been a problem. The strikers scored bagfulls of goals last season between them. The goalkeeper, defence and central midfield is where the problems are.

Wonderful analysis there. You didn't move to Dublin by any chance to work as a researcher for TV3's Sports Tonight programme ???
P.S. Europe is the one area where Arse fans can't lecture Tottenham.

I can see them putting together a great win streak in a few games time, once Ramos has settled in like......... too many good players and a bit of luck and confidence goes a long way in the Premier League when you don't have to worry about finishing in the top 4. -AmadeusDC-

Spurs to stay in the bottom 4 until after next week - Chelsea will annihilate that mid 5 of attacking mids. I cannot believe that the Berbatov, Corluka, Arshavin, Falcao deals have not been finalised yet. They had the whole summer and they are still messing about with it. How Ramos did not learn that 4-5-1 with 5 attacking mids does not work in the premiership against Boro I don't know.
