I'm guessing then he's not good enough for Liverpool, Man U, Arsenal, Chelsea.... ;)
Class signing imho - him and McShane should really make a difference.
Losing 2-0 instead of 4-0.
Makes it look even better business if Middlesbro really pay £3mil for Leadbitter. :crazyeye:

He's looked a great keeper any time I've seen him... Good signing even if it is 9m

Good keepers cost a premium. When was the last time you can remember a grade a keeper moving clubs? I'd say probably Toldo (2000, £28m) and Buffon (2001, £32m). Even Barthez cost £7m was back in 2000.
If more clubs had done their homework on Cech, he wouldn't have gone for so little. As it stands, it's probably the sharpest piece of business done by Chelski in the Abramovich era. If he was sold tomorrow (which isn't going to happen, let's just treat it hypothetically) it would be for something in the range of £35m-£45m. Ditto Casillas.
With the amount of money at stake, £9m will be a great piece of business if he does well and Sunlun stay up.

I'm surprised other bigger clubs and Villa didn't show more of an interest or maybe Randy Lerner wouldn't fund the deal.

Think most of the big boys are sorted keeper-wise
9 million is gonna take most out of the market

Ya, i would have expected Arsenal to be interested, then again Wenger doesn't sign many british players.
I suppose Richard Wright and Franny Jeffers are responsible for that.

Wenger did get badly burned with those two .... He was linked with Gordon before he bought the Pole tho

Way too much for him. £4M tops. Could probably have gotten Boruc for £6M - £8M. I was on holiday. A bit shocked when I heard the price tag.

who do you think is better MON, Boruc or Gordon? you've probably seen more of both than anyone else here like?
Also, whatever happened that young fella Marshall?

From what I've seen of Gordon with Hearts & Scotland I think he could be the best British keeper around. Hasnt put a foot wrong in any of those games. Add in the fact at 24 he's only a baby keeper wise so it could prove to be great business by Sunderland. Anyway he's certainly better than the keepers that are at the club already.

The price differential between Boruc and Gordon is typical for that of British and non British players. Sunderland easily make £4mil if Ward was sold. Fulop would be an adequate back-up. Villa are taking Scott Carson on loan

Scott Carson has agreed in principle to join Aston Villa on a season-long loan although the move will be delayed for a fortnight if Liverpool fail to sign a replacement for their second-choice goalkeeper today.
That deadline is necessary because Rafael Benítez has until the close of play to register players for Wednesday's Champions League qualifier against Toulouse, raising the possibility that Carson could be forced to remain at Anfield for two more weeks.

£27 million potentially spent this summer now Mark... relegation would be a bit of a disaster if it were to happen

Boruc, not being biased, is a far superior keeper. Marshall is a good shot stopper, but prone to an awful lot of mistakes - as you'll see next season. Sunderland fans won't be unhappy with the purchase, but I personally think it's too much to be honest.
Marshall - confidence ruined by a rotten defense in front of him. Could be the next Shay Given, or the next Carl Muggleton.

Ex Forest keeper Darren Ward would never cost anywhere near 4 million. I've seen him play numerous times, good keeper ya but 4 million is just hilarious.
