Any golf club in the country with a pro will do lessons. Tips........well Easons/Waterstones or the digiwidewonderweb can help with that.

I'm not too sure if you need to be a member of a club to get lessons form the pro there , i assume you do! but I'm pretty sure you can get lessons in frankfield without being a member

Everybody is different so everyone has different things that work for them. If there was 'actual ones that work' for everyone then we'd all be great golfers, thats the challenge with golf!

I have been. its my slice that i've been working on lately attempting to convert my swing to draw the ball. huge distance apparently the new thing is to hit it as hard as you can and work on getting it straight then. the complete opposite to what it was before

I dunno about that, I've always been taught to sort out your contact with the ball first, get the ball going straight and then work on getting power and distance into your game. Seems a bit odd doing it in reverse IMO

exactly , start with your wedge / 9 iron , get that right and work your way through the bag
Biggest mistake with people is they pull the driver out first

the wedge/irons are fine its the driver etc that are causing the problems!
Most important thing is to have the correct stance and a basic understanding of your swing. Having a fluid, simple swing is what you're looking for.
The pro in East Cork is supposed to be pretty decent and not too expensive. He also does a 10 week course in Midleton Tech over the winter with different groups of varying levels.
I have never heard of murdering the ball and then working on direction. Weird advice. Like parrotbait said, work on hitting it straight and then distance.
If you ever see pro's up close it's bizarre how easy they appear to hit the ball.
Golf will never cease to melt your head. Suppose that's why it's so addictive.

They key to hitting the ball long is making sure that the peak power and speed of your swing is the exact moment of impact. Sounds simple but I'm still trying to perfect it as are most playing at our level.
A solid swing is the base of any good golfer. By trying to murder each shot you are creating more chance of fucking up.

I normally find when you try to hit the ball hard , you fuck up
take and extra club
The swing is all about timing and balance

but getting distance is down to club head speed and allegedly i'm supposed to create fierce clubhead speed without murdering it due to the fact i'm a pretty keen hurler. does anybody else play the draw shot by rolling your wrists over that is a really good shot to create run down the fairway and maximise your distance just getting it right consistently is the problem i have with it

Watch Ernie Els's swing , theres no rushing or smashing the ball as hard as he can
Its all rythm and timeing
to quote a famous golf movie - "Its all in the hips...."

Ever see Furyk's swing, the most bizarre swing I've ever seen, he holds the club so close to his body and does a strange sort of shimmy with the club just before hitting the ball.works though!

Golf is the ultimate mind game.
Keep the swing slow at first then pick it up as you get consistent.
The clubs also help, in general the better clubs will make for better contact with the ball.
No you dont have to be a member of a club to get lessons but do get lessons just for grip stance and swing.
The weirdest swing has to have been Eammon Darcy's it makes Furyk look ok.

Buy a decent set of 2nd hand clubs before big investment.
A nice set of taylor made rac or os2 should be good for the fellow high handicappers.
Where do you play.
Best piece of kit though is the Ping G5 or G2 driver. Well worth looking at.

I had my first ever hole-in-one tonight, 190 yards 5 wood on the 17th hole. Twas getting a bit gloomy so I didn't see it go in but knew it would be close so having looked around the green for a minute decided to check the hole and there it was. A very good feeling!
