I realise Cork aren't involved, but surely this is worth a bit of attention.

Are Limerick genuine contenders this year, I wonder, or did they simply wear Tipp down over the three matches? I also get the impression* that Waterford might be going into this game slightly cocky. Thoughts?

*Well, as much of an impression as you can get about anything Championship-related when you live in the wrong fucking country.

Waterford need to beating these wasters by 6 or 7 to considered champion material

Waterford are no great shakes, they could only beat half a cork team by a score. In fairnes the side we finished up with that day they should have taken us to the cleaners, yet they struggled to kill us off.

Their fullback line looks particularly vulnerable under the high ball.

I think Limerick could surprise a lot of the pundits in this one, definitely worth a flutter.

It took them three games to beat a rubbish Tipp team, then they were running around like the won the All Ireland, they won't lack fitness though

Waterford should win very handy. But, they may think they've it all done in Munster now that they beat Cork.

For Limerick to win O'Shaughnessy needs to have the game of his life.

The best thing about them playing each other is that they'll bate the shit outta each other. I don't think Flynn would be as brave whipping across Reale (if he's fit to play that is) or someone of his ilk, like he was with O'Connor in the semi.

Waterford should be far too good for them if they've any All Ireland intentions tho.

I know the celebrations were a bit ott but to be fair, Id say we'd be jubilant if we hadnt won championship match (excl. qualifiers) in six years!

On paper Waterford's forwards's should have too much for em, but how many Munster finals go according to script?

I think this Waterford side has been built up out of all proportion on the basis of the league win, push come to shove they're bottlers. If this Waterford team were going to win an all ireland, theyd have done it by now, remember the collapse against Clare? And if you want to talk about ott celebrations , look at the Deise's reaction to winning the league semi final, ffs.

Im just saying that this Limerick side look hungrier and in comparing the two backlines, I think Limerick are more than capable of upsetting the odds for this one.

.

Well, 1998 Championship first round v. Limerick. We were happy, like, but not jubilant as I remember. There wasn't a pitch invasion at the end or anything.

Well, I'm only going by what I read on websites. As I said before, I'm on the wrong side of the Irish Sea to have my finger on any kind of pulse.

I think he has been ruled out, but i used Reale as the example as, to me, he sort of embodies the thuggish element that can be seen in hurling. The kind of fella who thinks, right i'm marking a guy infinitely more skilful than me, i'll just flake the shit outta him for the game.

If imerick are such wasters how did they run Cork to a point last year? Are Cork only better than wasters by one point? Are Cork only better than 'bottlers' by only one point?

The fact is that Waterford should win but Limerick will give them a decent game. And I can confirm that theres very little cockiness in Waterford

anything less than an All Ireland will be failure for Waterford now. Having said that I fancy them to beat Limerick tomorrow. Tipps forwards are nowhere near as strong as Waterfords and Limerick struggled for large parts of the three games against Tipp in that area. Alot will depend on how whether Waterford really come out of the blocks and play good fast hurling like they did against cork, or if they get dragged into a battle with Limerick, which will slow the game down considerably.

I fancy Waterford by 4 but wouldn't write off a storming Limerick comeback in the last 10 minutes

I sincerely doubt it, considering the match is on sunday.

Typical soccer bad mouthing, no good word about anyone except ourselves..??
Your second quote betrays a distinct lack of knowledge about hurling. You don’t really understand what hurling means to people, and in particular people of Co. Limerick.
We have had 11 years without any senior success at all on the hurling field. In this time we have had to live with the rise of Munster rugby(of which we are all happily bandwagon fans). While we support them as fervently as any other team, I think the people in limerick yearned for the return of success (limited as it is at the moment) in the sport that we all have our roots in.
I think that we were entitled to a blow off a little steam after winning a hard fought trilogy of games against an up and coming tipp team containing one of the greatest exponents of the game.

From a limerick perspective it is great to be actually excited about championship hurling again. A feeling we haven’t had since ’96.
I think if we can keep Ken Mcgrath and Tony Browne quiet ( a very hard thing to do) then we have a great chance tomorrow.
I actually think a limerick win would be the worst thing that has ever happened this Waterford team and it would completely nullify the league win. While a limerick loss, while being very disappointing would not be a disaster. Due to this I think and hope that limerick will hurl with a bit more freedom and this could swing it for us.

If Waterford do go on to win POL, don’t come back with the “they should have beaten them by 6-7 points” bullshit. Congratulate them and wish them luck.
If limerick win…I don’t give a fuck what you say because I’ll be drinkin for the week.

If Limerick are going to beat Waterford they are first going to have to learn how to score goals in the 3 games and the extra 40 minutes against Tipp they only scored 2 goals ...on the other hand in the game against Cork Waterford scored 5 goals ok Cork were missing a few players but 5 goals is 5 goals ........ the team who scores the most goals tomorrow will probably win the game and you have to fancy Waterford because they could hit four or five of them again tomorrow where Limerick will struggle to score one

Very true. The one upside i see in tomorrows game is that the waterford full back line is not as tight as tipp. They also struggled under a few high balls against cork. But we have to stop their half back line and take it from there. The less ball their forwards get the less scores they get.

best of luck to both sides, here's hoping for a great game of hurling!
