Well having attended the Craichouse on Sunday night as an audience member I found that the comedy is lacking. The energy was low for all comedians and this really reflected onto the audience. I was in fact really disappointed that I paid a meager five euro to get into the club for what was shown.
This has not been the case in the past when the comedians and the audience basically had a laugh. Both practised amongst each other and I found this highly amusing.
Maybe this is down to the management's responsibility as a promoter to actually stop this lack of energy and decide that if a comedian is to be a comedian then they must realise that their gigs are not chores. From what my friends and I saw , we found that not one of the comedians had an interest in the audience with the exception of two comedians. The guy with the guitar, Duff or soemthign and the lad wearing the hat with that distasteful joke about Amsterdam, but they showed energy and some form of vibrancy. The MC showed no interest whatsoever, he relied more on his material than his interaction with the audience and gave out to an audience member for thinking he was not funny. It was not the audience member's fault that he or others felt that he was not funny, he just plainly wasn't.
I beseech the promoter of the club to actually research which comedians should headline and which shouldn't. I have never in the history of this club felt like I deserved a refund but that night I truly did want to ask for one.
The mixture of comedians was satisfactory as I have sene them before but in the name of jesus why give comedians 15 mintues, they do not deserve it. From my own experience with attending gigs throughout the UK and Ireland I have found that a comedian will do a whole lot more work in a ten minute slot than he would in a 15 minute one.
I have been in contact with some promoter friends up the country and I have been asked if I were to contact a few of the Cork comedians and find out if they would be interested in organising their own venue alongside the craichouse. I have experience in a management and marketing role for a famous Irish HR company and to be honest I have the money and the time to work on something where the comedians will be asking me for gigs and will get a bollocking if they fuck up.
This lack of discipline shows highly on the stage and to be honest if the comedians will not respect the night or their stage then they obviously will not respect the audience.
This is my two cents message to every person out there but please change this system Mr. Craichouse, it was shamefully embarrassing to have a gig with no energy especially on a Sunday night when people are actually commuting to your show for just comedy!
