Former Premiership referee Graham Poll has conceded he cost Everton victory in the Goodison derby of the 1999/2000 season.
The Blues had won the first encounter at Anfield 1-0 earlier in the season and seemed to have snatched victory in the return clash at Goodison in April that season when Liverpool goalkeeper Sander Westerveld inadvertently blasted a clearance against the back of Everton's Don Hutchison.
The ball rebounded into the net but Poll ruled the goal out controversially.
Having now retired, the official from Tring has conceded he should have allowed the goal that would have provided the Blues with their first Premiership double over their local rivals.
Poll said: "I made a right ricket in the last minute and disallowed what was probably a perfectly good goal. I tried to explain it away but when I watched it back I thought 'maybe I should have kept my mouth shut'."

I don't like Poll but if he sent Terry off for what he was 'alleged' to have said to King in the Spurs match then I have some sympathy for him. He was forced to keep stum on the reason for the sending off because Terry is English captain and then Terry undermines him in the press and he couldn't do shit about it. Would love if he really came out and explained his decision without any handcuffs from the FA. I don't buy the whole it was 'to teach him a lesson' crap personally

Nor do I. There was definitely more to Terry's sending off than has been let on. As for Poll, Fuck him and fuck Collina too. Thats right fuck the two of em.

Say what ye want lads about Poll but for me he was the best Premiership ref over the last 5 years (well since Paul Durkin retired anyway). Ok he may have liked the limelight but on a lot of occasions he treated players as comrads rather than opponants. And he showed more common sense than most.

He favoured all of the top clubs. Your comments about him treating players as comrads can really be limited to the top players . There really was a disparity with the way he treated star players and run of the mill players ......imo that is. Lets just sat that he seemed like a guy who was more interested with making friends at the "important" end of the league

I dunno. I watched some of the Charlton Reading game a few months back when the controversy with his signalling to Pardew was the news. Now I dont see any big names or teams involved with that decision.
Maybe he broke the rules in doing what he did but looking back I thought it was a breath of fresh air that players, managers & refs work together to avoid players getting sent off needlessly and a slagging match to run through the media for days or weeks afterwards.

Didn't the crowd sing 'you've got two more chances' after he gave out his first yellow after the world cup?

For that to work and be fair , he'd have to do it for every team.
He didn't. It was another headline seeking act imo and grossly unfaor to every player that he's ever sent off previously for two bookable offenses

Always thought he was a decent ref. Maybe he tried to come across a bit too friendly at times but I'd have his type over the old school David Ellary type anyday.

But the thing is Pardew was smart enough to chance his arm in asking Poll. How many more managers have asked the same question?
